Former Minister Taj Mohiuddin Among Three Booked For Cheating

SRINAGAR: Former Congress Minister Taj Mohiuddin, along with two others, have been charged with cheating by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. They are accused of defrauding an individual by promising him ownership of a 72ftx30ft plot of land in the village of Nandani, Jammu.

Vijay Kumar, a property dealer, enticed the complainant by falsely claiming that he owned six shops in the same village and offered to sell them. The complainant was assured that there were no legal issues or defects with the property. After making the full payment, the complainant never received possession of the land.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the complainant made an initial cash payment to Vijay Kumar, and the remaining amount was paid through cheques to Raj Kumar Gupta, who acted as the negotiator. However, these cheques were ultimately deposited into the account of former Minister Taj Mohiuddin.

Upon discovering the deception and misappropriation of his money, the complainant filed a written complaint with the Nowabad Police Station. Inspector Surinder Raina confirmed that three individuals, including former Minister Taj Mohiuddin, have been booked, and further investigations are ongoing.

Taj Mohiuddin claims that he sold the land and received full payment from the complainant. He insists that he never denied the complainant possession of the land and asserts that all the necessary legal documents for the transfer of ownership were prepared. Taj Mohiuddin invited the complainant to take possession of the land, emphasising his commitment to fulfilling the agreement.

The former Minister also alleges that the complainant initially expressed interest in the property but later changed his mind, resorting to deceitful tactics to tarnish his reputation. Taj Mohiuddin, who has previously served as a Minister in both the PDP-Congress and NC-Congress Governments, faced legal trouble in 2020 when he was investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his alleged involvement in the illegal regularization of encroached forest land under the Roshni Act.
