SRINAGAR: The Motor Vehicles department on Thursday said they are going to add a fleet of 30 more electric buses in July next month to enhance the public transport system in Srinagar.
A senior official at the Regional Transport Office said that the department is going to receive 30 electric buses from Srinagar Smart City next month which will be pressed for public transport service in the city.
“A total of 100 electric buses are to be received by the Srinagar Smart City by October this year, out of which 30 buses are likely to be made operational in July on various routes of the city,” he said.
The official said the department has taken several initiatives to improve the public transport system in Srinagar and the addition of more electric buses will further improve public transport.
In April, the department revamped the public transport system with a route integration plan to “streamline” the public transport service in the city.

Last year, a strategic partnership between TATA Motors Ltd. and Chalo Mobility Pvt. Ltd. was established to deliver a fleet of 200 electric buses to the twin capital cities – Srinagar and Jammu – to create a public transport system in the union territory that is “fiscally, socially, and environmentally” sustainable—(KNO
