SRINAGAR: Khalsa Aid is planning to work with one of Kashmir’s reputed social groups, SRO Kashmir in managing the Covid19 impact on the population. The two charities are discussing a plan to reach out to around 6000 families and manage their food for some tie but the details are yet to be finalised.

Khalsa Aid’s Asia Pacific head, Amarpreet Singh flew to Srinagar on Friday and had a detailed meeting with the SERO Kashmir. They had a detailed briefing of the SRO Kashmir work on Oxygen management and food distribution to vulnerable families.
“Interesting part is that they had discovered us the day, we dedicated an Oxygen Concentrator to the memory of Inderjit Singh, one of Khalsa Aid’s key Punjab volunteers who died in a road accident on April 20, 2020,” an SRO Kashmir Volunteer said.
Singh was a volunteer very popular among Kashmiri youth for his immense contribution in managing the Kashmiri students in early 2019. He rescued hundreds, sheltered them and rushed them home as particular gangs were singling them out.
This, the Khalsa Aid said was the key factor why they decided to contribute the paediatric Oxygen concentrators. The Khalsa Aid, SRO executives said, were impressed with the Project Oxygen Kashmir.
However, they said they are good at food and hunger management and on that basis, they are willing to join hands for accessing almost 6000 families in the urban and suburban places of Kashmir.
“It is a proposal with no finalisation yet,” an SRO Kashmir official said. “We have shown them what kind of food kits the SRO Kashmir has been giving to the vulnerable families and those facing issues because of lockdown.”
SRO has been able to reach out to around 1500 families in 2020. While the focus has shifted to Oxygen this season, SRO Kashmir said they have already covered 250 families and are keen to reach 1000 families more. The kit helps a 5-member family to manage a month’s basic food requirement minus vegetables.
