Khurshid Alam Asks LG Admin To Revoke New Gag Order Against Govt Employees

SRINAGAR: Former MLC and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC) leader, Mohammad Khurshid Alam has expressed grave concern over a recent government order establishing a task force to fire government employees without investigation, calling the order traumatizing and humiliating for government employees in Jammu and Kashmir as a whole.

As per the statement issued to Kashmir news service (KNS),Alam said that government employment is a basic source of livelihood for the majority of the people in the state and the issuance of such Farmaans will only snatch away such basic facilities from the conflict-torn masses.

Alam added that the Civil Service Rules of Jammu and Kashmir already have rules and regulations in place to bring erring officials to justice, and that there have been several instances in the past where employees who violated the CSR were disciplined. However, according to Alam, the decision to form a task force and fire a government employee without conducting an investigation appears to be frighteningly draconian and surprising.

Also those who commit the most egregious crimes are given a chance to defend themselves and make their case, he says. “But here, the scenario looks entirely different. The complainant, investigator as well as executioner is the government. The accused has no say, no representation and no podium to defend himself or her own self. Such orders only belittle the institutions of justice and fair play. Such actions would also create new fault lines between the government and the people and will turn the situation worrisome with each passing day,” PC leader said in his statement.

Alam has requested that such an order be revoked immediately, arguing that there is no need to establish a new set of rules when the current ones are already well-drafted, debated, and defined.

He urged the Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to revoke the order so that the employees’ trust could be restored and new bonds of trust and harmony established for J&K’s long-term stability and growth.

Alam has also condoled the sad demise of Mouzin of Srinagar’s Historic Jamia Masjid- Jinab Mohammad Yasin Bangi. Hailing religious services the deceased has rendered over a decade, Alam termed Yasin sahib a pious man who shall be known for his utmost simplicity and nobility for long time. The PC leader has prayed for the departed soul and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family at this hour of immense grief. (KNS)
