SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday claimed to have solved a grenade-throwing case in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A police spokesman in a statement said that on 12-12-2020 at 1805hrs unknown militants hurled a hand grenade towards the Police Post Bus Stand which missed the intended target and exploded outside the gate of the Police Post, resulting in injuries to three civilians.
The spokesman in a statement said that accordingly a case FIR No. 349/2020 was registered in Police station Sopore and investigation was set into motion.
“During the course of investigation 02 suspects namely Mohammad Asif Najar son of Mushtaq Ahmad Najar resident of Noor Bagh Sopore and Sahil Rashid Bhat son of Abdul Rashid Bhat resident of Green Town Sopore were apprehended,” said the spokesman.
“During questioning, they confessed that they are working for LeT outfit as over ground workers and had thrown the Grenade on Police Post Bus Stand on the directions of LeT militants. The duo also confessed that they were desirous to join the terrorist ranks but before that, a hand Grenade was handed over to them with the directions to throw it on any security force/ Police establishments in Sopore area, which they finally threw on Police Post Bus Stand. Both have been formally arrested on 01-04-2021 in the instant Case and are presently on Police remand,” he said.
Further investigation is going on, said the spokesman.
