Cold Wave Continues In Kashmir, Gulmarg Freezes At Minus 5.6

SRINAGAR: Cold wave conditions continued in the Kashmir Valley on Saturday as minimum temperatures remained below the freezing point.

An official from the MeT department said, “ Minimum temperatures have dropped in J&K and Ladakh today due to clear night sky. Weather is likely to remain generally dry during the next five days in both J&K and Ladakh.”

Gulmarg famous ski-resort in north Kashmir was the coldest place in the region where minimum temperature was minus 5.6 degrees Celsius.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of minus 2.2 while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature in Pahalgam – the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra – settled at a low of minus 5.5 degrees.

Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 1.0 degrees Celsius last night.

Jammu city recorded 8.6 degrees Celsius, Katra town 9.4, Batote 6.9, Banihal 5.2 and Bhaderwah 0.8 as the minimum temperatures.
