PDP will protect people of state and its identity: Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar

Stating that the undemocratic measures taken by the central government are pushing the people of the state into a corner, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) President and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said that need of the hour is that the Government of India must stop this muscular policy and understand that dialogue is the only way forward.

Mehbooba while addressing workers conventions in Pattan and Sonawari stated that it was the agenda of the PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that accorded a sigh of relief to the people of the state after 2002 elections.

She said that prior to that, dialogue with Pakistan, reconciliatory approach and pitching for peace used to be considered as a taboo within the political landscape.

She said that it was Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who initiated an era of reconciliation in Jammu and Kashmir and laid foundation of the ideology that declares that the state must become a bridge of friendship between India and Pakistan.

The Former Chief Minister said that the previous coalition of PDP  and BJP was dictated by the numbers of the election results in which both the parties were at par and forming a coalition was a brave attempt to engage with the new India which is dominated by the Hindutva forces.

Mehbooba said that the PDP successfully resisted for four long years the policies of the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir and that it has now become visible that how the BJP is trying to divide the state, divide communities and undermine the vital institutions of the state.  “One could imagine at present what havoc would the BJP have created if it would have been left alone after the 2014 polls,” said PDP President.

The PDP President Mehbooba Mufti in her address also expressed serious concern over the prevailing situation in the state and said that the repressive measures and iron fist approach are being rigorously implemented with common masses threatened, intimated and harassed by the government at large.

She reiterated PDP’s stand vis-a-vis banning the socio-political and religious organisation- Jamaat-e- Islami, terming such a measure as undemocratic, unconstitutional and an attempt to hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims all across.

The PDP President added that her party will remain in the forefront to oppose any move aimed at harassing,  suppressing and targeting the people of the state and that the policies being adopted by the central leadership towards the state are turning the already crises ridden region into a war zone.

Addressing the gatherings, Senior PDP leader and former minister Dr Mehboob Beg said that, when there was no presence of BJP in 1996 in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Farooq Abdullah with sixty MLAs aligned unnecessarily with the BJP with a sole objective to secure a junior ministerial berth for his son.

He added that soon after Dr Farooq joined hands with the BJP, he gave away whatever was left of state’s economic prospects in the shape of power projects to the centre.

He added that Farooq Abdullah consolidated forces of official terror and patronized and promoted them while making BJP Halaal in Kashmir politics.

Any attempt to harm Articles 370,35A will cast shadow on the accession of J&K with India: Dr Farooq Abdullah

Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Sunday asserted that any attempt to harm Article 370 and Article 35 A will unarguably cast shadow on the fundamentals of the accession of the state with the union of India saying that ensuing Parliamentary elections provide us with an opportunity to keep such forces out of power as are inimical to the constitutional safeguards of our identity and integrity.

NC President Dr Farooq Abdullah with other senior party leaders at Srinagar.

Addressing a public gathering at Lawaypora in Batamaloo constituency, party president said that the whole scheme of our state’s accession will come under shadow if Article 370 and Article 35 A are fiddled with.

“Throughout the chequered history of our party, we have symbolized the unity and integrity of our state. NC has given immense sacrifices to protect the special constitutional disposition of our state within the union of India. Now we are facing onslaughts from all sides, the RSS-BJP and their cronies in the state are trying their level best to do away with the Art 370, Art 35 A with a sole purpose to change the demography of our state, which is the only Muslim majority state of India. However, the parliamentary elections afford us a chance to keep such forces out of power. We should avail this opportunity and not let this pass by us unutilized. The coming generations will never forgive us if we don’t show resoluteness in trouncing the machinations of communal forces that are bend to dissolve our unique identity,” he said.

Party president while flaying Prime Minister Modi for squandering the precious mandate of people said, “PM Modi had promised to deliver on various issues concerning the nation during his 2014 election campaign but he has aggravated the problems to an extent that will take decades to solve. Modi Government presents a tale of failures and misgovernment. People have now made it a point to give a befitting reply to Modi for his failures and lies. ”

“Having been failed to deliver on key issues that the country is facing, the Modi led BJP government would create a war like situation in the country to subvert the attention of people from the real issues affecting poor, farmers and the labor class,” he said.

While underscoring the importance of ensuing Lok Sabha elections, Dr Farooq Abdullah said, “Today it is an opportune movement to clean the country and the state from the communal yolk. Our fight is with the communal forces. This time you have to cast vote for securing India’s secular visage, and in particular the very identity and integrity of our state.”

Party president said that the no section of Indian society is happy with PM Modi, “The farmers, the housewives, the youth; every one of them is feeling betrayed. The farm distress is at an all-time high. The mothers and sisters across India are finding it difficult to run their households. The situation is no different in Kashmir. The miseries our state is fraught with in terms of unemployment, underdevelopment and insecurity have soared up during the misrule of PM Modi. What good was achieved by Omar Abdullah led Government in terms of development and peacemaking was put into a chasm. However, it is never late, now that we have witnessed the misrule, corruption and nepotism of PDP-BJP with our eyes we should not let them come close to power corridors. Our vote will decide as to what should be the recourse of our state vis-à-vis development for the next half a decade. Besides that a strong voice from Kashmir in parliament will ensure that our woes are brought before the country,” he said.

Dr Farooq said that Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah had unremitting faith with which he kept going. “My father always advised me to offer Nimaz. And I take this opportunity to recommend the same to our younger generation. Death is inevitable; we should not feel bogged down. We should show steadfastness in protecting our unique identity at any cost.”

While expressing disgust over the treatment being meted out to L K Advani, Dr Farooq said, “See for yourself what happens to those who differentiate between humans on the basis of faith. Advani with his much-touted Rath Yatras used to polarize Nation, now see what a life of disrepute he is living. This should act as an eye opener for those who spread the malady of communalism. Allah is watching us, we cannot hide. We should never leave the humanism. Our state presents a mosaic of cultures and no development is worthy if any community is left out from the scheme of development. NC believes in inclusive development. Our vision espouses a developed J &K, where everyone lives by dignified sustenance.”

While taking a jibe at Modi’s utter failure to deliver on the promises he made during the run-up for 2014 elections, he said, “Today people are asking where the black money is. The entire slogan mongering by him turned out to be a damp squib, everything turned out to be a Jhumla. If the lessons from the last four years could be distilled into a single sentence, it would be: the Modi government has proved harmful for the nation’s secular visage. On every conceivable matrix it has failed and every single citizen whether a Hindu, Muslim and Sikh has to pay a heavy price for the Modi brand of mis-governance.  The economy of our country which was booming pre-Modi era is now lumbering all credits to de-monetization and other ill-conceived measures of Modi Government.”

He said that Modi government has not left a legacy but a cautionary message for all times to come. “Now we all have to make it a point to protect the secular disposition of India by sending those people to parliament which could take the country towards safer shores. This time we should send all NC candidates to parliament with resounding winning margins.”

Party president asked the people to strengthen his hands in fighting communal forces in the country, “I am sure that if we forge unity we won’t let the machinations of our enemies come true. The need of the hour calls for unity.”

Among others party, general secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani, district President Pir Afaq, Central secretary Irfan Shah and YNC provincial president Salman Ali Sagar also addressed the gathering.

Tinkering with Article 370, 35A will alter relationship between Delhi and J&K: Sajad Lone

Srinagar

Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone on Sunday said that Article 35A and Article 370 are the Articles of trust and any thought of tinkering with them will alter the relationship between J&K and the union of India.

Reacting to Arun Jaitley’s remarks on Article 35A, Sajad said that all provisions of the Constitution of India except Article 1 and Article 370 have been applied to J&K State through Presidential Orders and not through amendments under Art 368 which require approval by two-third majority of both houses of Parliament.

He said that 35-A is in no way an impediment to investment and development in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Investors are not willing to set up the industry, hotel & private educational institutions in Kashmir due to the prevailing security situation and economic uncertainties attached to it,” he said

He further said that J&K is not the only State where non- locals are prohibited from purchasing land.

“All North Eastern states and even Himachal Pradesh have laws prohibiting non-locals from purchasing land.  Why are politicians in New Delhi only against J&K’s special status?  What are their views on Art 371-A to 371-K which guarantee provisions like 370 as applicable to the North Eastern States? Why do they forget that transfer of immovable property is prohibited in NE States and parts of HP as well?”, he asked.

Reiterating that Article 35-A and Article 370 are Articles of trust, Sajad said even thoughts of tinkering with these Articles will be a sin.

“Article 35A is a matter of faith and dignity for the people of the J&K through which the Constitution of India guarantees to safeguard the special identity and unique status of Jammu & Kashmir. In matters of pride and identity, profit and loss is immaterial. Can a country allow a foreign country to undermine its sovereignty and national pride just for the sake of some monetary gains?” he asked.

Before you boycott, think who benefits: Er Rasheed

Srinagar

Urging those who boycott the elections and call casting votes as betrayal from the cause, AIP parliamentary candidate from north Kashmir Er Rasheed has asked masses and sensible voices to revisit their strategies and not play down the negative impact of a huge election boycott.

Er Rasheed addressing an election rally in Lolab area of north Kashmir on Sunday, March 31, 2019.

The party spokesman in a statement said that during his vigorous mass campaign Er Rasheed on Sunday addressed public gatherings at Herri, Laderwan Kawari, Awoora, Hyhama, Drugmulla, Lolab,  Sogam, Wawoora, Warnow Lolab, Lalpora, Surigam, Kanthpora and other places and urged masses to come out in huge numbers and vote for AIP to make a positive change on the political spectrum of Jammu and Kashmir.

The spokesman in a statement quoted Er Rasheed as having said, “The proxies of Delhi including PDP, NC and PC have not only created traditional cadres and have full backing of state apparatus, AIP is contesting election against all odds and is truly trying to make efforts to tell the world truth about Kashmir and Kashmir issue.”

“AIP promises to speak not only the truth but not to compromise on the aspirations, sentiments and sacrifices of people. Non-participation by sensible voices will ensure the victory of murderers, exploiters and anti-Kashmiri forces. There is a huge need to change the strategy to make world community and Indian masses heard and understand the reality about the Kashmir issue. It may look strange but the fact is that NC, PDP and PC being the biggest beneficiaries of election boycott are doing everything to ensure that people don’t vote for a change,” he said.

Er Rasheed thanked masses in Kupwara and Lolab areas for turning in huge numbers despite the dirty tricks being played by so-called regional parties and assured people that he will represent them with commitment, sincerity and dedication.

Er Rasheed said, “While Peoples conference preferred to get engaged in horse trading to grab power, NC and PDP cried victim seeing their dynasty rule under threat, without introspecting why people started hating them.

Er Rasheed said those who invented PSA, gifted power projects to Delhi, imposed AFSPA and are architects of all miseries, rather confessing their guilt’s are playing politics of exploitation and hypocrisy.

Who Is Baramulla’s Richest Candidate In Lok Sabha Polls?

by Masood Hussain

SRINAGAR: The self-attested and voluntary affidavit that Election Commission of India has made mandatory for every candidate in the assembly and Lok Sabha elections offer some idea about who the candidates are. The affidavits detail contestants’ immovable and movable assets and some basic information about them.

Post-demonetization, the political parties ensure that they field candidates who have the personal strength to manage the costs as the elections have become very expensive. But that might be not the case for Kashmir where elections are security sensitive and may require less money even in comparison to Jammu and Ladakh.

Baramulla constituency goes to polls in the first phase on April 11. It has 15 assembly segments and spans over three districts – Kupwara, Bandipore and Baramulla. In the last Lok Sabha, PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beig represented it. His performance was termed to be lowest, both in attendance in contribution.

Mohammad Akbar Lone (NC)

Of the nine candidates in fray for the Baramulla LS constituency, it is NC’s Mohammad Akbar Lone who is the oldest politician. A many time MLA, Lone was Speaker of the assembly till 2014.

Basically a resident of Naid Kahie village in Bandipora district, Lone has multiple houses; He usually lives in Humhama in the Friends’ Colony, outside the Srinagar airport.

In his formal declaration, Lone has said that his immovable assets are Rs 7.84 lakh and his wife owns golden jewellery worth Rs 6.5 lakh. Interestingly, he does not own a motor car.

Lone has inherited 95 kanals and 20 marals of land in Naid Khaie. Later in 1995, he purchased 20 kanals. So the total market value of his entire landed estate is Rs 7.50 crore.

In Humhama, he says he has acquired nine marlas of land for Rs 30 lakhs, which now has a market value of Rs 50 lakh! He has a house at Naid Khaie and also half of the house at Chani Ramma in Jammu. The Jammu House values Rs 2 crore.

What is interesting is that Lone in his declaring has stated that his total immovable assets are worth Rs 59.60 crore but the details do not justify that. His liabilities are a bank loan of Rs 1.04 lakh. His wife is a housewife.

Raja Aijaz Ali (PC)

Seemingly, it is Raja Aijaz Ali, who is the liquid of all his competitors. A resident of Pehlipora in Uri’s Boniyar belt, Raja Aijaz retired as Inspector General in Jammu and Kashmir Police and joined politics. He was with PDP, a party he deserted and joined the Peoples’ Conference that gave him mandate for the north Kashmir Baramulla constituency.

Raja’s wife has retired as a Zonal Education Officer in the state’s education department.

In his declaration of assets, Raja has stated that immovable assets are at Rs 11075300 as his wife’s liquid assets are at Rs 7994187. These include his investment of Rs 40 lakh in Itifaq Packaging Private Ltd and a payment of Rs 60 lakh that the couple made to al-Amin Charitable Trust. He drives an Rs 13 lakh Hyundai.

Raja and his wife own 7.64 acres of land at Pehlipora, Chinad and Shalteng of which they have purchased 40 kanals. Its current valuation is Rs 8.03 crore, according to the affidavit.

In Brein , Nishat, in the city outskirts, they have nine marlas of land valuing Rs 43.6 lakh. His wife owns 30 marlas of land in Sidhra Jammu which values Rs 3.06 crore now. It was acquired in 1993.

They have a home at Pehlipra and another one at Kral Sanghri in Nishat. Besides, they have a flat at Kedrya Vihar in Gurgoan and another flat in Channi, Jammu’s Sweet Apartments. The declaration said that excepting the flat at Gurgoan, every other place is inherited. They have put the value of these residential spaces at Rs 3.8 crore for Raja and Rs 18.08 lakh for his wife.

So the total immovable assets of Raja Aijaz are at Rs 125365000 and that of his wife at Rs 32434000. Raja has a liability – a bank loan, of Rs 848606. So, given by the declaration Raja has made, the couple is the richest couple. Raja has total assets of Rs 13.64 crore and his wife is worth Rs 4.04 crore – cumulatively they are around Rs 18 crore.

Abdul Qayoom Wani (PDP)

Abdul Qayoom Wani, whom the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) fielded from Baramulla, is a resident of Ussan village in Karhama belt of Tangmarg. He was a school teacher and led the teachers association for many years. Recently, in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls, he quit the job, joined the PDP and got the mandate from Baramulla.

In his declaration that is part of his nomination papers, Wani has said that his total movable assets including cash and bank deposits are Rs 1012696 of which Rs 60000 were in hand when he filed the papers. His wife had Rs 854854. The couples’ two dependents – their children, had Rs 164107 and Rs 174096, respectively. Wani’s movable assets included his Rs 8.20 lakh worth car and an old bicycle.

Wani has 1.3 kanals of land at Ussan that value Rs 35 lakh and has acquired two marlas in Seheora (Jammu) for Rs 3.51 lakh for his wife. At Ussan, he has two buildings which value Rs 1.05 crore. So his total immovable property values Rs 1.40 crore in his name and Rs 3.51 lakh in his wife’s name. Besides, his liabilities are Rs 4.73 lakh, a bank loan. His wife is also a teacher.

Engineer Rashid (KL Image: Bilal Bahadur)

Engineer Rasheed, a two-time lawmaker representing the Langate constituency in the state assembly, does not own an asset at all. As per the declaration he has made in his papers, his only asset is the recently acquired 3000 sq ft piece of land at Jawahar Nagar on which is a built-up area of 1400 sq ft. He has stated that it’s market value is Rs 80 lakh against which he has raised a bank loan of Rs 60 lakh.

Farooq A Mir (Congress)

Congress has fielded Haji Farooq Ahmad Mir, a resident of Khurhama in Lolab. He earlier contested for assembly and lost. Haji has put his movable assets at Rs 1097435 which includes a Scorpio as his wife has Rs 2.20 lakh. His wife owns land worth 22 lakh and Mir personally Rs 7.50 lakh. His total immovable assets are Rs 92 lakh and that of his wife are Rs 22 lakh.

Javed Qureshi, a resident of Narbaba Hangah in Handwara’s Batagund belt is a businessman. He has declared his assets at six lakh rupees including a vehicle and that of his wife at Rs 60,000. He does not own anything beyond that.

Jehangir Khan, a resident of Nandi Bala in Karnah lacks any immovable asset. His movable assets are Rs 1.95 lakh and his wife has Rs 20,000. Panthers Party has fielded him.

Mohammad Maqbool War (BJP)

BJP has fielded Mohammad Maqbool War, a resident of Rohama in Rafiabad. He has Rs 1.20 lakh and some land. His immovable assets are worth one crore that includes his home and the land that he owns.

The ninth candidate is Syed Najeeb Shah Naqvi, a resident of Kamalkote in Uri. His movable assets are worth Rs 1529287 which includes two cars – a Honda City and a Scorpio. His wife owns gold woreth Rs 15.21 lakh. His laded estate is worth Rs 40 lakh. He has a house in Kamalkote and Harwan in Srinagar as well – both valuing Rs 70 lakh. His wife owns a petrol pump for which she availed a cash credit of Rs 1.65 crore. Of this Rs 67 lakh is outstanding. He has said his wife is a business women and he himself is a political activist.

In A Private Hospital, ‘Medical Negligence’ Kills A Lady

by Saima Bhat

SRINAGAR: In a shocking incident, a 36 years old female breathed her last after being operated upon for a cyst in one of her ovaries in Ahmad’s Hospital in Nowgam area on March 27 morning, family sources said.

The family of the deceased blames hospital administration for killing her due to ‘medical negligence’ but the hospital administration says the patient died of ‘cardiac arrest’.

The lady identified as Saima Majeed, was married to Ghulam Qadir Tantray, a resident of Rawalpora, just three years back. A week back, one of her cousins said she underwent some tests and the doctor suggested her for surgery. She was admitted in Ahmad’s Hospital on March 26 and same evening she was scheduled to undergo surgery for a cyst that she had developed on her ovary and other blood tests, CA-125, that are in possession of Kashmir Life as well, confirmed the cyst was not malignant. She was admitted for the same under MRD number 1405.

“The surgery continued for around four hours and after that, her doctor Qazi Ashraf, who is also working as an oncologist at SMHS hospital, and Dr Laharwal, informed the family that it was a clean operation but they had to remove one of her ovaries, fallopian tube and appendix. We were aware that one of her ovaries will go but not her tube and appendix. Both the doctors left at 11 PM,” said Waseem Hassan, Saima’s cousin.

Her other cousin, Moiz Ahmad, who was accompanying the patient in the hospital said, “Whole night nobody came to see the patient, neither any doctor nor any nurse. She was kept in a ward named ICU but she shared the room with two more patients who had delivered their babies and were accompanied by 8 to 10 attendants. How is it possible that attendants will be allowed to be in an ICU?”

Next morning, as per her family, Saima was supposed to be shifted to a ward and a nurse came and asked the patient to walk. “As soon as she took two steps, she couldn’t balance herself and she fell down. In that chaos the hospital staff shifted her back to the theatre from where she was referred to SMHS hospital,” says Moiz.

One of her aunts had asked the hospital administration that she will accompany her in the ambulance. “But they did not allow her. It was just a van, like another vehicle with a first aid kit.”

He adds, “We also rushed in our private vehicles to the SMHS hospital where she was declared brought dead at 8.58 am.”

On the fourth day of Saima’s mourning, her family members went to the hospital for knowing the cause of her death. “But the hospital administration was changing their statements. First, they were saying she was suffering from cancer and now they are saying she died of cardiac disease as claimed by the doctors,” said Mansoor Ahmad, another cousin of Saima.

“When the hospital does not have any specialised post-operative system then how did they operate upon on such a patient, if at all she was a cancer patient? The hospital authorities are responsible for her death,” he said.

Meanwhile, Waseem also added that Saima was not having a happy relationship with her husband and her in-laws. “It was her husband who opted for her surgery in such a hospital. And after her death when we asked him to share her medical reports he denied the access. I suggest police to investigate both sides, medical negligence as well as her husband angle in the case.”

When contacted Haseeb Mughal, the SSP Srinagar, he said, “There is a magisterial enquiry going on in the case. I cannot comment over the issue, let the magistrate find out the truth.”

But as per sources in the concerned police station so far no FIR has been registered. “The body has been buried already but a preliminary investigation has been started and if the team finds out the death has happened due to the medical negligence then only an FIR will be registered.” He adds, “Investigation will take time.”

Kashmir Life tried repeatedly to contact the hospital administration but the phone number on their website was not working.

“In 2005 my cousin delivered a baby in the hospital and she was medically normal but after surgery, the doctor had given her deep wound and she had continuous bleeding and unfortunately she could not survive,” said Shibani, a resident of Rangret Rawalpora.

Reportedly there have been a few more deaths in the hospital after which the hospital remained closed for some time but then they managed to open it again.

Indira-Sheikh Accord ensured ‘hands of the clock cannot be turned back’: PC

Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference on Saturday said that Indira-Sheikh accord of 1975 did not stop the “onslaught” on Special Status of the State as maintained by NC and in fact legitimised and put a stamp of approval on all erosions made up to that period.

PC spokesperson Adnan Ashraf Mir in a statement said that “Indira-Sheikh accord emphatically clarified that “hands of the clock cannot be turned back”. It means that erosions made to Article 370 until 1975 cannot be reversed. The accord put a stamp of approval on all previous assaults on autonomy.”

He further said that “Sheikh Abdullah was forced to concur and recommend the application of Constitution Order, 1975 which debarred the state legislature to reverse amendments made to Article 370 until 1975. The application of this order ensured that any law made by the State Legislature seeking any change if any provision relating to appointment of Governor, Election Commission of India and composition of Legislative Council shall have no effect unless it received the assent of the President of India.”

He further said that since the posts of Prime Minister and Sadar-I-Riyasat were replaced by Chief Minister and Governor by virtue of an amendment in the State Constitution in 1965 and the same could have been reversed any time by another amendment by the State Legislature however Indira-Sheikh Accord removed any possibility of reverting the Prime Minister and Sadr-I-Riyast arrangement.”

The spokesman also said that the Public Safety Act is not a British era act but was enacted by Sheikh Abdullah in 1978.

“PSA was gifted by Sheikh Abdullah to Kashmiris after getting a two-thirds majority in 1977 elections, much to the annoyance of non-congress Central Government who at that time was against such draconian laws and curtailment of liberties”, he added.

Over 150 Kashmiri students studying at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Delhi, have opposed upcoming Kasheer’ 19 fest, saying it misrepresents the situation in Kashmir. Here is the verbatim statement from the Kashmiri student community in Jamia.

Jamia Millia Islamia

We the students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, in strict terms express our dismay and disapproval of an event named “Kasheer’19” that is going to be held at our university on 2-3 April 2019.

This event, masquerading as an “art & culture fest” is being held in the name of “Kashmir” and is a stark misrepresentation of the situation of Kashmiri students studying in different parts of India and the overall situation in Kashmir. The event has political overtones while also being backed by vested statist interests. The event had sharply polarized and divided J&K students in the campus last year. In fact, after the conclusion of the last year’s fest, the invitees from Kashmir like Zareef Ahmad Zareef etc. also cautioned students against holding such fests in future, but their sincere advice was also downplayed.

This event deliberately sows the seeds of confusion among students and attempts to distort the discourse on Kashmir by blurring the identity lines while camouflaging the reality in Kashmir. Under the adverse political atmosphere around, and the worst state (of) oppression and curbs on people’s rights in and outside Kashmir, we take a strong objection to organizing the event in our name that shows a non-existing normal state of affairs.

The fact of the matter is J&K students studying in different universities and colleges across India are not living under normal circumstance. The post-Pulwama witch-hunt and mob lynching of Kashmiris from Haryana to Bengaluru, suspension of at least two dozen students from Indian universities and return of 3000 students to Kashmir has created an extraordinary fear. Female Kashmiri students were abused, and they had to lock themselves in their rooms as threats from fascist forces intensified. The United Nations and the supreme court of India have taken cognizance of the fearful circumstances faced by Kashmiris across India.

Facing an existential threat, at least three thousand students returned to the valley, leaving their education midway. The viral videos of Kashmiri businessmen and journalists facing extreme physical persecution have rendered all of us to a state of trauma. The killing of a school principal in police custody, other routine killings, demographic threats, have added to the miseries of Kashmiris. The situation at the border and the latest escalation between two nuclear powers has reduced our lives and land as mere objects of war. Such circumstances have led to a state of perpetual mourning in Kashmir and holding such fests just obfuscates the reality.

The ‘Kasheer-19 Fest’ done in our name, tramples upon our very identity by grossly appropriating the culture. We feel that such events are catalysts in altering the real dynamics of Kashmir discourse, with a definite purpose to question the integrity of our nation. The appropriation of Kashmir identity and culture has been used and hijacked in the recent history of Kashmir, which has only created more chaos.

We call upon the invited guests not to advance any unpleasant gestures and abstain from coming to such events which create fissures and flare up the animosity among students in the campus and leads to our misrepresentation.

In the interest of full disclosure, our silence on such events would have been considered as tacit approval, which would have been misleading and under no circumstances would have represented us.

Come out with white paper on his performance in, outside parliament: Er Rasheed asks Muzaffar Beigh

Srinagar

Continuing with his campaign AIP parliamentary candidate from Baramulla Er Rasheed on Saturday visited, Lathishart, Tujar, Tutigund, Neelipora Magam and other places in Sopore and Handwara assembly segments and asked masses not to forget the fact that whosoever they have voted in the past for the parliament elections has acted as a collaborator to strengthen his personal interests, said the spokesman.

Er Rasheed addressing an election rally in Sopore.

The spokesman in a statement quoted Er Rasheed as having said the record of the parliament reveals that the MPs from J&K have been like mute spectators and have remained deaf and dumb whenever parliament was in session.

Questioning PDP leadership Er Rasheed challenged Muzaffar Hussain Beigh to come out with a white paper and tell masses about his performance in and outside parliament.

“The irony is that Beigh even forgot the voters of his own assembly segment and did not visit even the important towns falling in Baramulla parliamentary constituency,” said Er Rasheed.

“He just grabbed voters on the same pattern PC candidate is trying to do in far-flung areas,” he said.

Er Rasheed asked people not to forget the role of NC MPs who represented state from time to time and said that all those who were voted to represent people of J&K, unfortunately, contributed nothing except getting personal benefits and benefitting a certain section of their near and dear ones.

NC representative of state’s unique identity, integrity: Dr Farooq Abdullah

Srinagar

Jammu and National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said that the flag of National Conference symbolizes the sacrifices of many who gave their lives to end the ill- fortune Kashmiris faced for centuries saying that the need of the hour calls for a second revolution to put up a joint effort to trounce the forces as are bent to destroy the integrity and unique constitutional character of the state.

Dr Farooq Abdulah, Omar Abdullah along with other senior party workers during a gathering of party functionaries, block presidents and a segment in charges of Srinagar

Addressing a gathering of party functionaries, block presidents and a segment in charges of Srinagar, Dr Farooq Abdullah said, “The leadership of the country who liberated the nation from colonial clutches bequeathed us with a secular and progressive constitution.  They idealized an idea of India that was deemed to be for all, where everyone lives with dignity; where caste and religion would not have fettered anyone’s socio-economic advancement,” adding, “However there are forces as are disposed to tarnish the very secular visage of India. The agenda of BJP-RSS is all exclusive; they have all along shown consternation for the secular and progressive ideals of the Constitution of India.”

Party President while underscoring the significance of the constitutional safeguards including Art-370, Art 35-A said, “It was in that constitution, a social document that National Conference was able to achieve a special dispensation for our state. The Delhi agreement streamlined the relation between Srinagar and New Delhi. Nonetheless whatever we were able to achieve was eventually eroded by the successive governments of the state led by Bakshi and Sadiq. They had to implement the agenda of New Delhi because they drew their sustenance from them. They were bound to do so, being at their beck and call, they had no other choice.”

“However no sooner we returned to power, the unrelenting erosion of our special status ceased to end. However, our absence from the power corridors of our state gave all the forces as is inimical to the state’s unique character and integrity a field day to fiddle with our status. What unfolded during the past few years during the PDP-BJP rule bears my assertions out, be it the implementation of the National Food Security Act or GST.  What was left of our special status in the shape of our fiscal autonomy was eroded by PDP. We have seen it all with our eyes. This should act as an eye opener to all.”

Dr Farooq while reproving Union Finance minister for his recent uncouth assertions about Art 35-A said, “Art-370, Art-35 A sanctify the constitutional link between New Delhi and the J&K state. They are hell bent to degrade our constitutional status; this assertion of his reveals their anti-Kashmir agenda. Kashmiris have lent immense sacrifices to throw the autocratic yolk away from the state. We have never allowed anybody to enslave us; we will never give up on that predilection of ours. We will fight for the unity and integrity of our state at any cost.”

Party President said that PDP canvassed in 2014 election campaign to keep BJP out but what followed they eventually landed up in the lap of RSS-BJP. “Mufti Syed in his last days repented for his colossal mistake but that delayed repentance of his was of no help. His daughter followed her father’s suit and hobnobbed with BJP to keep her flock together. She hunkered down before BJP-RSS for the sake of power and chair. Not to talk of preserving what was left of our autonomy.”

“The countless miseries that were inflicted on Kashmiris in PDP-BJP government will take years to heal. Now Mehbooba Mufti is again up to the same gimmickry, she masters; this time we should not fall prey to her theatrics,” he said.

While referring to the mushrooming of parties mostly one-man armies in every nook and corner of the state, he said, “My father Sher-e-Kashmir foretold about such mushrooming of leaders in every alley of Kashmir after his death. People who were seeking freedom until the recent past are now sitting in BJP-RSS. Today they are hobnobbing with them but time will come when they will also suffer at hands of their masters.”

“Having been failed to deliver on key issues that the country is facing, the Modi led BJP government would create a war like situation in the country to subvert the attention of people from the real issues affecting poor and middle class; farmers and labor class,” he said.

While underscoring the importance of ensuing Lok Sabha elections, Dr Farooq Abdullah said, “Today it is an opportune movement to clean the country and the state from the communal yolk. India is a vast country and our fight is with the communal forces. This time you have to cast vote for securing India’s Secular visage, and in particular the very identity and integrity of our state.”

Party General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar while addressing the convention said, “This time the situation is like that of 1977. It is National Conference pitched against all the forces as are inimical to our special status. In the forthcoming elections, we should make it a point to trounce all those forces as are bent to destroy our unique constitutional position.

Party’s senior leaders Nasir Aslam Wani, Mubarak Gul, Shameema Firdous, Salman Ali Sagar and Tanvir Sadiq also addressed the people.

Among others party vice president Omar Abdullah, General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Irfan Shah, Peer Afaq, Showkat Mir, Er. Sabiya Qadri, Sheikh G Q Pardesi, Ahsan Pardesi, Younis Gul, G N Tailbali, Sardar Jagdish Singh Azad, Khalid Rathore, Qaisar Jalali were also present in the convention.
