Srinagar: Firebrand independent lawmaker and MLA Langate Er Rasheed on Thursday was sent back from Kawari area of Kupwara by a joint team of army and police while he (Rasheed) was on its way to kupwara from Handwara.
Rasheed said that a heavy contingent of government forces stopped him at Kawari, and asked him to show an identity proof ( Aadhar card) which was not given back to him later.
Rasheed said that after waiting for some time he and along with his party members decided to go back to Handwara but a policeman tried to snatch the key of his vehicle, “I am myself confused why in being humiliated and disgraced on daily basis,” he said.
“It is not drama it is real. Don’t know what is in my destiny just now when i was on way to Kupwara was stopped by joint team of Army and Police at Kawari. First they ask me to show i card. I obeyed then they said that u cannot visit Kupwara. After waiting for 5 minutes i asked them to allow me go back towards Handwara but a JKP Jawan tried to snatch the key of our vehicle and after heated arguments was allowed to move back. I am myself confused why these encounters every day and what was their purpose to humiliate and disgrace me. I request Mehbooba Mufti to at least send my I card back, (sic)” Rashid wrote on Facebook.
Earlier, on Wednesday Rasheed accused police of humiliating him after he demanded the release of Langate youth detained under Public Safety Act.
Er, Rasheed was in tears while talking to Kashmir Life over the phone from Handwara Police station, “I am being abused and humiliated inside the police station. I don’t feel secure here.”
On Tuesday, Er Rasheed was on indefinite hunger strike inside police station Handwara after he was arrested on his way to Kupwara. Rasheed was scheduled to hold a peaceful indefinite hunger strike outside DC Office Kupwara against slapping of PSA on a local youth from Langate town of Kupwara district.
