Anganwadi workers stages protest in Srinagar, demands hike in salaries

Srinagar

The Jammu and Kashmir Anganwari workers and helpers of ICDS department from several districts of Kashmir on Thursday held a protest demonstration in press colony, Srinagar, demanding a hike in monthly salaries.

Scores of the protestors assembled at press colony raising anti-government slogans demanded an enhancement in monthly honorarium.

The workers also demanded a hike in their salaries for Aanganwadi workers from Rupees 3600 to 10000 and for Anganwadi helpers from Rupees 1000 to Rs 8000.

Tasleema Subhan, an Anganwadi worker said: “we are struggling from a long time for our genuine demands as our workers and helpers are made to work on very low rates and no hike in the wages have been given since a long time.”

They also said that they besides doing the Anganwadi work, also perform election duties, examination duties and much more, but are never paid for the extra work.
