Days after a Noida based university have expelled at least 30 students from Jammu and Kashmir who have got admission to avail scholarship facility under PMSSS, the Union Minister for Human Resources and Development Simriti Irani Saturday said she will look into the fresh complaints with regard to PMSSS.

“We are committed to help the Kashmiri students under the Prime minister Scholarship scheme. I am personally monitoring the complaints of Kashmir students.  I assure all the students that Central government will give all possible help to them,” Simriti Irani told KNS over phone from New Delhi.

A Noida based university had expelled at least 30 students from Jammu and Kashmir after Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India failed to release the scholarship amount in their favour.

“They asked us to leave the university campus as well as the hostel accommodation instead of pursuing the matter with MHRD for early clearance of the pending scholarship amount,” students studying in Noida International University had complained.

When asked that students have alleged that Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India has failed to release the scholarship amount in their favour, the minister said, “I have directed all academic institutions identified under the scheme to strictly follow the guidelines on supernumerary quota under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme in a fair and transparent manner. There is also a set procedure for this scheme. I can say that authorities are following the procedure in letter and spirit,” she added.

Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar recently had urged the students from Jammu and Kashmir, who have got admission for various courses outside the state, to avail  maximum benefits from  the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS)

It is pertinent to mention here that Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti recently had also called on Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani and raised the problems being faced by the students of Jammu and Kashmir on account of poor implementation of the PMSSS.

Mehbooba had highlighted various incidents wherein Kashmiri students were served expulsion notices and subjected to “mental trauma and humiliation.

The PDP president had also expressed serious concern over the treatment meted out to Kashmiri students covered under PMSSS at the hands of various college and university authorities outside the state.
