Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza Monday issued directions to the employers of the district to release the wages of their workers, at their workplaces, on the due date, without any deduction, for the period their establishments are under closure during the lockdown.
DC Bandipora who is also the chairperson District Disaster Management Authority issued the directions in the exercise of the powers conferred under Section 34 of Disaster Management Act, 2005.
Mirza directed all employers including shops and commercial establishments to make payment of wages of their workers, at their workplaces, on the due date, without any deduction, for the period their establishments are under closure during the lockdown.
He also directed the landlords not to demand payment of rent for a period of one month from the workers including the migrant labours who are living in rented accommodations and shall not force their tenants including students and labours to vacate their premises.
The Deputy Commissioner said the directions have been passed with an aim to deal with the situation arising due to COVID-I9 and to mitigate the economic hardships of the migrant workers
He warned of strict legal action against the violators of the law which includes imprisonment and fine, which may extend up to 02 years or with both, Under Sections 51 to 60 of Disaster Management Act, 2005.
DC Bandipora said the administration in collaboration with the local volunteers have distributed 900 food packets containing rice, oil, pulses, spices and other essentials among migrant labours, destitute and poor people of the district in past two days.
He directed the Department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Revenue Department to make adequate arrangements of temporary shelters and provision of food etc for the poor and needy people, including migrant labours, stranded due to lockdown.
