Slapping PSA on Alam worst kind of state terrorism: Geelani

KL Report

SRINAGAR

Terming the 6th time detention of pro-freedom leader and Muslim League chairman Masrat Alam Bhat under PSA as the worst kind of state terrorism, chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani appealed Amnesty International and other International human rights organization to take serious notice of this grave issue and use their influence for his release.

He said that Muslim League leader is being subjected to the political vengeance rather his continuous imprisonment doesn’t have any constitutional, legal or moral justification. In his press statement, Geelani said that to hold any person without trial in preventive custody for years is an open and clear violation of the human rights and international laws and is not acceptable in any democratic society of the world.

“These types of cruel acts are the trade mark of the dictatorship or military rule but where the so-called elected government is in place and Omer Abdullah and other pro-Indian people are also claiming to be the representatives of the people, keeping there any person in incarceration continuously for four years only for political vengeance is the height of lawlessness and it is totally against the democratic claim of India,” he said.

Geelani said that the PSA has been termed as cruel and ‘lawless law’ by the Amnesty International and American Foreign Office Department and its application over the citizens has been termed as the grave human rights violation. However, despite these facts, its unabated use is continue in Jammu & Kashmir and during last 24 years, thousands of people have been detained for years together under this black law and even today, hundreds of people are in prison due to the PSA.

Hurriyat chairman said that Masrat Alam Bhat is although a well known political leader but he is being dragged in the revenge for 2010 people’s movement and the secret agencies are frustrated for his vital role in this movement. However, he said that the mass movement of 2010 was stimulated by the killings of innocent people at the hands of Indian army and other government forces. First of all four innocent persons were killed in Machil fake encounter by an army officer merely for his promotion and then Inayat-ul-llah, Wamiq Farooq, Zahid Farooq and Tufail Mattoo like children were mercilessly killed. The common people reacted on this and came on roads to protest, after which the CRPF and police killed more hundred plus innocent students. Geelani said that the killers of these innocent students are still roaming free and the mourners are put behind the bars.

While pressing for the immediate release of all the political prisoners including Masrat Alam Bhat, Geelani said that this tyrannical attitude of Omer Abdullah led government will have serious consequences in future and it will increase the political uncertainty and instability in the entire state.
