Youth killed after Chinar branch falls on him

Srinagar

A youth was killed after the branch of a hollow Chinar fell upon him in Sumbal area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The death sparked massive protest even as locals alleged that despite repeated pleas, authorities didn’t bother to chop down hollow chinar trees in the area.

“There are over 7 hollow chinar trees near CHC Hospital which pose a greater risk to life and property. The school and college going students can anytime become a prey of these hollow chinar trees,” locals said.

Sources said locals have decided to observe a complete shutdown tomorrow against what they called ‘murder’ of the young man.

JKDFP remembers Asiya, Neelofar; condemns forces ‘hooliganism’ at Sugan

Srinagar

Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) on Monday remembered Asiya and Neelofar, two young women of Shopian who were raped and murdered by the men in uniform in 2009.

Paying tributes to the slain duo, a JKDFP spokesperson said in a statement that government has been using rape as a war weapon against the Kashmiris who have been struggling for their right to self-determination since decades together.

Strongly condemning the probe agencies for not delivering justice to the people of Kashmir, the JKDFP spokesperson demanded an international probe into all the killings in Kashmir including the dual rape and murder of Asiya and Neelofar.

He said it is very important to punish the culprits behind rapes and killings and only this can prove a powerful confidence-building measure.

It is also the responsibility of the justice loving people in and outside Kashmir to remain fighting for the victims like Asiya and Neelofar.

People should also raise their voice in favour of an international probe into the heinous crimes like that of the murdering of Asiya and Neelofar because Indian agencies have miserably failed and proved mere puppets.

Exhibiting solidarity and sympathy with the family of Asiya and Neelofar, the JKDFP spokesperson said that whole nation stands united against the killers of two young ladies whose souls are still searching for justice.

Meanwhile, the JKDFP spokesperson strongly condemned the “hooliganism” of Indian forces exhibited in Sugan village of Shopian district. He said that the way government forces ransacked and vandalized residential houses and Apple orchards at Sugan it proves that these forces think Kashmiri people as their conquered slaves.

Mehbooba cried for Aasiya Neelofar in opposition, forgot them in Power: Er Rasheed

Srinagar

Paying tributes to Asiya and Neelofar on their 9th anniversary, Independent lawmaker and MLA Langate Er Rasheed has accused Delhi of denying Kashmiris justice even in matters where Indian state has been always claiming to be taking high moral ground.

In a statement issued on Tuesday Er Rasheed said that the failure of the system to bring murderers of Asiya and Neelofar to justice has exposed the investigating agencies as well as the political dispensation.

Er Rasheed said “Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti needs to be reminded of her pro-active role during the times when the incident took place in Shopian but after becoming Chief Minister she maintained criminal silence.

“Her disappointing attitude has raised the question mark on the credibility, will, and sincerity of all those who are in the power corridors or who do believe in the system. People cutting across political, regional and religious affiliations were expecting something concrete at least in Aasia and Neelofar’s case from Mehbooba Mufti for her much pro-active role at the time of incident and being herself from the womenfolk, but unfortunately she has not only failed herself but the entire mainstream is genuinely under fire for compromising over the issue,” said Er Rasheed.

Er Rasheed asked Mehbooba Mufti to give a thought to take the unfortunate incident to its logical end. He also condemned forces for creating hawk in Shopian and other places and not sparing even the orchards.

Er Rasheed said “The security agencies seem to be leaving no stone unturned to take revenge from anything that comes their way. The claims of tolerance and respect for Ramdhan seem to have proven nothing but cruel jokes.”

Er Rasheed said that after an IED attack army has damaged at least 60 houses, vehicles, apple trees and other properties and there are even allegations of looting cash and other valuables from the ill-fated houses of those were targeted for none of their faults.

He said throwing to spoil the food items, that too in the holy month of Ramzan, is not only condemnable but in contradiction with the ceasefire claims made by the central government and army command.

He said that the father of Hizb commander Zeenat ul Islam is right saying that if his son, or any other militant for that matter, has left home three years ago to attack or to be attacked by the forces why should innocent family members be given the punishment for none of their fault.

Expressing sympathy with all the victim’s families Er Rasheed demanded punishment to the forces involved in the criminal act and sought due compensation for the victims.

Talk clear, we are ready to join the process: JRL to Govt

Srinagar

Joint Resistance Leadership Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Dr Mohammad Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik on Monday held a detailed meeting at Hyderpora and deliberated on the current prevailing political situation Jammu and Kashmir state. The JRL while taking the stock of the situation said that the statements emanating regarding “talks “in the course of last few days from different people at the helm of affairs in New Delhi are unclear and ambiguous.

While Rajnath says there should be dialogue with both Kashmir and Pakistan but Both “Kashmir and Kashmiri is ours” Swaraj puts a rider and says no talks with Pakistan unless “terror is stopped “then Amit Shah gives a spin to the ceasefire that’s it’s not for militants but people while state DG had issued a statement that it’s for militants to come back home. All this ambiguity leaves little room to consider the talk about talks seriously with a purpose or warrant a response. Join Resistance Leadership wants to put all this in perspective and once again reiterate its stand, said a statement issued by JRL.

These statements came few days after PM Modi in Srinagar said that the panacea to the Kashmir problem according to him is “development “and “peace “is a prerequisite for that to happen, putting the onus of bringing peace on people will absolving the government of all role and responsibility in the matter. deliberately choosing to ignore the historical background of the Kashmir problem, it’s internal and external dimensions the reason for the presence of lakhs of his troops here the daily aggression and the highly volatile situation on the ground and near LoC in the conflict-ridden region. It was like Modi was playing a cruel joke on the people.

Then a few days back Rajnath Singh said that we are ready to talk to Pakistan and Hurriyat to which Sushma Swaraj added riders and caveats and r Amit shah put out his clarifications, not to upset his electoral applecart and calculations.

Now the question is what is this” talks “about to which Singh is referring? What is the agenda of these talks? Is it being about Modi’s suggestion of development?

JRL does not want to score points by highlighting the discrepancies and conflicts in their statements but wants to understand what GoI is conveying through them to respond accordingly.

Leaders said that since people of J&K are at the receiving end of the lingering 70-year-old conflict, being the worst affected, we are most keen to find an end to it. And hence have always advocated that being a political and human issue it needs to be addressed likewise, not militarily as GoI has been doing. And for a political redressal of the conflict dialogue among stakeholders is the best process and option available.

As J&K is a divided territory and half of it is in Pakistan, this dispute has three stakeholders in India Pakistan and people of this land. Meaningful talks based on a clear agenda underlined by sincerity among all the three stakeholders are an assured and peaceful way to resolve the conflict of Kashmir in all its forms and dimensions. The absence of any one stakeholder in the process will not yield to any solution. It is also important to have transparency in such a process and an assurance from all sides that promises and pledges made will be honoured. Talks that are so held keeping in view the concerns and needs of stakeholders especially the most afflicted party, to the satisfaction of all will surely be successful and result oriented.

Any effort that GoI makes in this direction will find takers in Kashmir and Pakistan. Let GoI give clarity on what it wants to talk about and speak in one Language we are ready to join the process.

The stakes for people of Kashmir are very high, we have invested heavily in our struggle for our Right to self-determination and cannot afford to be part of an ambiguous effort that has no clarity and direction.

Jamaat expresses solidarity with plight of Kashmiri detainees

Srinagar

Jamaat-I-Islami Jammu and Kashmir on Monday expressed solidarity with all those detainees and convicts who are languishing in the local and far off jails only because of their commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir who have been deprived of their most precious right to self determination.

The spokesman said government has utterly failed to fulfil its promises made to people of Jammu and Kashmir through the security council a number of times and it is now denying to have made any such covenant with the people and is bent upon to suppress the genuine voice of the people and whosoever raises this demand is declared to be anti-national and a threat to the security of the state and involved in many cases and detained and deprived of their most precious rights of liberty and freedom of speech and even got convicted under false charges in the courts manned by them.

In addition to it, unjustified force is used to suppress this voice and a number of the black laws have been implemented giving unbridled powers to the civil administration and police and other forces for forcing the hapless people to surrender their genuine cause, the spokesman said.

The spokesman added that some leaders are languishing in these jails including Bashir Ahmad Lone, Ameer Zil’a Srinagar and some in Tihar jail Delhi including Shabir Shah.

Jamaat Islami demands the unconditional release of all political detainees and shifting all of them to the local jails and providing them with all basic facilities to which they are entitled to under the civilized laws of the world.
