Judicial remand of Aasiya, her aides extended till November 15: DeM

Srinagar

The NIA court on Thursday extended the judicial remand of chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Mitllat (DeM) Aasiya Andrabi and her two associates, Nahida Nasreen and Sofi Fehmeeda Asiya Andrabi, by 15 days.

“Judicial custody of trio has been extended till Nov 15,” said family sources.

Aasiya and two associates Sofi Fehmeeda and Nahida Nasreen were arrested by NIA in July and currently lodged in Tihar jail.

Braving rains, thousands participate in funeral of slain Budgam militant

Srinagar

Braving incessant rains thousands of people from different areas of Budgam district converged on roads and started marching towards Brass Arizal to offer funeral prayers of slain militant Mukhtar Ahmad Khan son of Abdul Ahad Khan.

An eyewitness said that two rounds of funeral prayers were held for the slain. Scores of men and women wept bitterly as the body was being carried towards the final resting place, he said.

Pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans were raised by the mourners as the body was marched towards the local graveyard.

Khan was killed in an encounter with forces in Zagoo village along with his associate Mohammad Amin Mir son of Ghulam Rasool Mir a resident of Pampore. “One army man also sustained the injury in the gun-battle,” police said.

Govt removes Director Tourism Tasaduq Jeelani

Srinagar

Government of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday removed Tassaduq Jeelani as director tourism, Kashmir.

“Div Com Kashmir to hold an inquiry into incidents that occurred during FAM Tour from Oct25 to Oct27 & submit a report within 10 days,” information department said on Twitter.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan will hold charge of the post of Dir Tourism Kashmir till further orders, said the tweet.

Clashes in Pampore after rumors of killing of local militant, 2 injured

Srinagar

Two people have sustained injuries after clashes broke out between the government forces and people in Pampore areas of south Kashmir’s Pulwama town, after the rumors of killing of militant Mohammad Amin Mir, from Pampore, in Budgam gunfight.

Mir was killed along with his associate in Mukhtar Ahmed Khan, in Zagoo Arizal area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

The clashes started after rumors started that militant killed in Budgam encounter is a local from Tral. Reports said that scores of the protestors in Kadlebal and Drangbal have started pelting stones on government forces. Reports also suggest that a woman was hit by a stone near the site of clashes, while a man has also received injuries due to a smoke shell.

The clashes in the area were going on when this report was filed. Meanwhile, an official from the police has confirmed the killing of slain Mohammad Amin.

Zagoo Gunfight: Second slain militant identified as Pampore resident

Srinagar

The second militant killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Zagoo area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Thursday has been identified as a resident of Sopore.

An official identified him as Mohammad Amin Mir a resident of Drangbal area of Pampore.

Earlier, one of the two slain militants in the gunfight was identified  Mukhtar Ahmad Khan of Chill Brass Arizal.

Tral shuts on 2nd day to mourn militant killings

Srinagar

A complete shutdown is being observed in Tral area of Pulwama district on the second consecutive day on Thursday to mourn the death of two JeM militants.

According to reports all shops and other business establishments are closed in the town while traffic is off the roads. Heavy deployment remained on various spots across the Tral town and some other areas to thwart any attempts of protests.

Two Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militants were killed in the Chankitar gunfight on Tuesday in an encounter that raged between a mixed contingent of counter-insurgent forces.

Governor’s Advisor orders BOSE to conduct missed exam of detained Shopian student

Srinagar

The Governor led administration on Thursday ordered Board authorities to conduct the examination of the 12th class student from Shopian who missed one of the papers after being detained by police in place of his brother in Shopian district of south Kashmir.

Taking cognizance of an incident, Advisor to Governor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai said that authorities concerned have been specifically ordered to arrange the examination of the student for Environmental Science paper which he missed due to illegal detention.

“I have directed the concerned to arrange the examination for the student,” Ganie told news agency.

Confirming it, Director School Education Kashmir, Dr GN Itoo told a news agency that BOSE authorities have been asked to arrange for the examination.

The development follows an appeal issued by the family of the student Ubaid Ahmad Bhat, 16, son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat of Muloo Chitragam, Shopian.

Ubaid had missed the paper on account his illegal detention by police in places his brother during a night raid on Tuesday. Ubaid was later released around 11:30 pm. Ubaid is the student of Government Higher Secondary School, Tarkiwangam, Shopian and missed the Environmental Science paper yesterday. (GNS)
