11 Killed, 7 Critical After Bus Falls Into Gorge In Doda; PM Modi Announces Ex-Gratia

SRINAGAR: Eleven people were killed and 14 others were injured after a bus fell into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda. Quoting sources India Today reported that among the 14 injured, seven are in critical condition.

Rescue workers and Indian Army jawans were at the spot assisting the rescue operations.

In his Tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “Saddened by the road accident near Thatri, Doda in Jammu and Kashmir. In this hour of grief, I convey my condolences to the bereaved families. I pray that the people who have been injured recover at the earliest.”

The Prime Minister added: “An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the accident in Jammu and Kashmir. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”

Home minister Amit Shah took to Twitter to express his condolences. He wrote: “Saddened by the road accident in J&K’s Doda. I express my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this.”

In his tweet, he added that he has spoken to the lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha and will provide all possible help and treatment to the injured. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

An Indian Air Force MI-17 helicopter from Jammu, captained by Squadron Leader Ganeshprasad Honakuppe, evacuated the victims after receiving a request from Jammu’s divisional commissioner.

The Air Force airlifted seven critical accident victims from Doda and brought them to Jammu. Six lying and one sitting casualties were then transferred to GMC by ambulances, reported India Today.
