India, Pakistan Armies, Border Guards Exchange Sweets For The Second Time

SRINAGAR: In a development indicating that India and Pakistan continue to explore peace options, the rival armies exchanged sweets on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. The exchange of sweets took place at Uri and Teetwal.

An army Major and a Jammu and Kashmir Police Officer before moving to the small culvert that connects Teetwal with the other side of Kashmir. They exchanged sweets on the occasion of Eid on July 21, 2021 on this bridge over Kishanganga, the de facto border.

The sweet exchanges were the main outcome of the flag meetings between the two sides. The meetings marked the continued strict implementation of the ceasefire that the two sides revived early this year. The exchanges took place on the two bridges in whose middle the Line of Control is presumed to be passing.

A defence spokesman told reporters that the sweets exchange at around 11:30 am is a gesture appreciated by both countries and is expected to go a long way in promoting peace, harmony and compassion in the true spirit of the festival with a hope of a better future ahead.

This is the second such exchange this year. They had done the same thing on the Eid-ul-Fitr.

However, what is interesting is that the paramilitary forces of the two countries have also joined in. The Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers also exchanged sweets at various points along the international border. The practice had been abandoned after the August 5, 2019 decision making on Jammu and Kashmir. The exchanges, however, were reported in Punjab and Rajasthan.
