CBI Raids: Apni Party, Peoples Conference Get Into Virtual Squabble

SRINAGAR: The CBI’s third round of raids in the infamous gun licence case has divided two political parties – the Apni Party and the Peoples’ Conference.

Apni Party General Secretary, Vikram Malhotra issued a statement questioning the CBI investigations after many years of the scam.

“In the ongoing investigation into the biggest gun racket, what CBI searches for in their residences?” the statement said. “The CBI should enquire about the palaces these IAS officers have acquired from the ill-gotten money within the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu. The source of funding of these palaces must be investigated.”

The statement alleged that seemingly, the CBI is trying to shield the culprits. He said the documents cannot be retrieved after years and the raids are an eye-wash.

Reacting sharply to the Apni Party statement, Peoples Conference General Secretary Imran Reza Ansari said that raids and investigations cannot define justice and a hardworking IAS officer cannot overnight be dubbed as a violator of the law.

“I fail to understand how a political party has decided to offer its unsolicited views in an ongoing investigation. If the law is really to take its course then the queue would be really long. Someone who till yesterday was an honourable hardworking IAS officer looked up by youngsters cannot overnight be dubbed as a violator of the law.”

Imran said the Peoples Conference has been at the forefront in criticising the bureaucracy for lack of deliverance but such issues can’t be turned into a personal fight.

“I personally know the officer and I am sure he will come out clean. Our party has been at the forefront in criticising the bureaucracy for lack of deliverance. But we can’t make it into a personal fight. We know what problem the Apni Party has with this bureaucrat. Using petty familial issues to actually target an achiever and demand for his arrest is shameful behaviour”, he said.
