SRINAGAR: Authorities put up fresh obstacles to prevent entry of people into the Hyderpora residence of Syed Ali Geelani. He had invited people for the release of his book Iqbal: Ruh-e-Deen Ka Shnasa (Vol iii).
Sources close to Geelani said they were given the impression that the police would not interrupt in the book release function. “We pitched a tent and we sent the invitations to a number of people,” sources said. “But in the morning, they sealed the premises afresh, laid the wire barricades and converted this building into a no go area.”
While this led to the cancellation of the function, sources said some of the people who had been invited actually reported to the venue. They eventually went to the local Jamia Masjid where they stayed for some time and left.
Geelani is under house arrest for a very long time and entry to his home is highly restricted. The police have a permanent deployment at his main gate.
