Four Light Intensity Quakes Jolt J&K In Less Than 6 Hours

SRINAGAR: Four light intensity earthquakes jolted Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday in less than six hours.

The tremors that occurred in Reasi, Doda and Udhampur districts measured 3.9, 2.6, 2.8 and 2.9 on the Richter scale, according to officials.

The timings of the quakes were 2.20 a.m., 3.21 a.m., 3.44 a.m. and 8.03 a.m.

“No report of any casualty or damage to property has so far been received from anywhere,” the officials said.

The tremors occurred 5 and 10 km inside the earth’s crust. (IANS)

Pahalgam Accident: One More ITBP Trooper Succumbs To Injuries, Toll 8

SRINAGAR: An ITBP personnel, who was injured during a road accident in Chandanwari area of Pahalgam in South Kashmir’s Anantnag, succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura on Tuesday, taking the toll to eight.

Quoting an official the news agency KNO reported that an ITBP jawan identified as Nandan Singh son of Lal Singh was injured in Pahalgam accident on August 16 and was undergoing treatment at SKIMS Soura.

He said that the injured jawan succumbed to his injuries during treatment today at SKIMS Soura.

Notably, seven ITBP personnel were killed while 32 others including two J&K Police personnel were injured when a bus carrying them fell into a gorge near Chandanwari area of Pahalgam on August 16.

Infiltration Bid Foiled, Two Killed : Army

SRINAGAR: Army on Tuesday claimed to have killed two infiltrators after foiling an infiltration bid in Pukharni area of Nowshera sector along the Line of Control in Rajouri district.

Quoting an official the news agency KNO reported that army troops deployed near the LoC noticed some suspicious movement last night and opened fire.

He said that in the incident two infiltrators were killed and their bodies are lying near the fence, while attempts are being made to recover them.

Meanwhile, army in a statement said that the reconnaissance of the general area of attempted infiltration site is in progress.

“In reconnaissance by Quadcopter, two bodies of infiltrators have been observed and the area is being scanned further,” army said.

Father-Son Duo Killed In House Collapse

SRINAGAR: A house-owner and his son died while one person was injured after a house collapsed in Sanasar of Ramban district this evening.

Quoting official sources news agency GNS reported that house of one person namely Baldev Raj son of Kesab Megh collapsed while repairing this evening. Baldev Raj and his son Bunty died on spot and their bodies were retrieved by rescuers who rushed to the spot after getting the information.

Also another person namely Ravinder Kumar suffered injuries in the incident, they said. he has been removed to hospital, they added.

Police Register Case Against Army Men For Hurting Civilian

SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday registered a case for voluntarily causing hurt and wrongful restraint following an incident in which “some army personnel in uniform reportedly beat one civilian while another personnel present also got involved in a minor fight” at Nowgam Chowk Srinagar.”

“Today afternoon an incident came to notice wherein some army personnel in uniform reportedly beat one civilian while another personnel present also got involved in a minor fight at Nowgam chowk,” news agency GNS quoted police statement as having said.

“On receipt of this information, cognizance of the incident was taken and a case under FIR number 116/2022 under sections 323 (voluntary causing hurt),341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint) of IPC was registered in Nowgam Police station. “Investigation has been taken up,” the police said.

The brief police statement followed video on social media, circulated by many users including National Conference leader who said: “Such behaviour from army is highly unwarranted”.

In the video some army men are seen in altercation with a load carrier driver and all of a sudden a personnel rush to the spot and forcefully strikes couple of blows near the neck of a person.

Government Has Ensured Best Healthcare For All: LG Sinha

SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said that the government is investing in healthcare and medical education so that all our citizens and youth have the best service and career options they deserve for a better tomorrow.

“We have radically reformed the healthcare services delivery model. In the last two years, we have acted swiftly to bridge the gaps at the district and sub-district levels and harmonized all services for speedy and effective care of the needy. People now have easy access to healthcare they need, when they need and where they need it. Systemic improvements have led to high quality health care clearly visible in key health status indicators and national rankings,” the Lt Governor said.

Lt Governor also noted that the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (AB-PMJAY) SEHAT is playing a key role in protecting, preserving, and promoting the health of the people and even the most vulnerable sections of society are witnessing improved well-being of their families. It is pertinent to mention that till date, approximately 80% out of the total eligible 25.72 lakhs families have been registered as per NFSA database with at least one family member verified under PM-JAY and AB-PMJAY-SEHAT Scheme to avail the benefits of the scheme. A total of 72.57 lakh beneficiaries have received the Golden Cards.

“We constantly need to evolve innovative strategies to meet the challenges of our times, especially post-Covid pandemic. SEHAT is contributing in building a healthy society and helping us realize the vision of universal and comprehensive health care. It has made healthcare accessible to each and every citizen of the UT of Jammu Kashmir. Decentralized quality health care system has also taken the pressure off city hospitals. We are also strengthening healthcare and associated expertise for a strategic focus to address the challenges of drug abuse,” the Lt Governor said.

World class Infrastructures have been completed and many more are coming up in both Jammu and Kashmir Division. Jammu AIIMS has become functional. Seven New Government Medical Colleges are being established with a total outlay of Rs. 1595 Cr. 15 Nursing Colleges shall be made operational with an approximate additional cost of Rs. 60 crore during 2022-23. Two  State Cancer Institutes (one each in Jammu and Kashmir Division) shall be made fully functional with a total  cost of Rs. 212 Cr.( 104 Cr Jammu & 108 Cr for Kashmir).

Bone & Joint Hospitals are also coming up at both the divisions of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir at a cost of Rs. 129.80 Cr and 200 Bedded Additional Block at LD Hospital Srinagar at a cost of Rs. 132.50 Cr. Out of 140 projects with total outlay of Rs. 881.00 Cr under Prime Minister’s Development package (PMDP), 112 projects have already been completed and 28 others are targeted to be completed during this year.

Total 220 Health Projects and related works costing Rs. 1757.00 Cr are targeted to be completed during 2022-23. Against the target of 2742 Health & Wellness centers, 2108 have been made operational in the UT of Jammu Kashmir. 636 more Health & Wellness Centers shall be made operational during 2022-23, raising the cumulative progress to 2742 centers.

“Rs. 4200 Cr investment in medi-city will also increase number of beds and MBBS seats in the UT of Jammu Kashmir. Proposed hospitals, paramedical college and super specialty hospitals will add 1,000 MBBS seats, bringing huge relief to the youth planning for a career in medical studies,” the Lt Governor further added.

Shiv Sena To Attend All Party Meeting

SRINAGAR: Shiv Sena, considered as a rightwing political party, is also attending the all-party meeting being chaired by NC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah here to discuss the issue of inclusion of non-voters in electoral rolls of J&K.

Quoting Shiv Sena, J&K unit president Manish Sahni as having said that they have come together to help people despite their ideologies.

He said that Jammu & Kashmir is suffering and they have to work to end the miseries of common masses.

Manish Sahni belongs to Uddhav Thackeray camp.
