Jammu Boy Among NEET Toppers

SRINAGAR: Eighteen-year-old Tanmay Gupta from Jammu has created history by becoming the first from Jammu and Kashmir to be the national topper of NEET 2021, reported Hindustan Times.

He scored the perfect 720 out of 720 and secured All India Rank 1 among more than 16 lakh students who appeared in national-level test September 12.

“I am glad that I could make my UT proud by bringing it on the forefront of our nation, as Jammu & Kashmir being part of the country is still kept separated as far as medical admissions in premier institutions of other country are concerned,” Hindustan Times quoted Tanmay Gupta as having said.

Tanmay’s success story began right from Class-10. After he scored 100% in both Science and Maths in Class-10 CBSE board exams, his parents Dr Akshay Gupta and Dr Shivali Gupta, both practicing doctors, felt that Tanmat should get an opportunity to polish his potential in a more competitive environment with other children of the country, said the report.

With this in mind, they took the tough decision of sending their only child away from home, to DPS R K Puram in Delhi.

According to report Tanmay said students from J&K have as much potential as others in the country.

“We need to stop being content in our own little world and go out to explore new horizons. If I can achieve this, anyone from J&K can achieve this,” Hindustan Times quoted Tanmay as having said.

The 18-year-old adds that consistency is the key. “I used to study for three to five hours a day after school and whenever it was holiday, I’d increase the hours to seven to eight hours. I always set a target for each day, and when I accomplished that, it used to give me sense of euphoria and motivated me to further work towards my target,” he was quoted as saying.

“With an aim to get admission in one of the best institutions of the country, Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi in my mind, I left my hometown to pursue Class 11 and 12 from Delhi, but God had different plans for me and I was blessed to be eligible to be selected in India’s top institution in medical sciences–AIIMS Delhi,” he said according to report.

In his free time, Tanmay likes to go swimming and watch light-hearted TV programmes. He, however, kept himself completely away from social media and other OTT platforms, reported Hindustan Times.

BJP Govt Insensitive Towards Problems Of Farmers: Sadhotra

Addressing the public meeting Ajay Kumar Sadhotra Former Minister and Senior Leader Jammu & Kashmir National Conference welcomed the newly elected Provincial leaders and assured that workers of National Conference Marh Assembly Constituency shall always stand by the Party and its Leadership to mitigate the problems of common people.

Further addressing the public meeting Sadhotra and Rattan Lal  Gupta said  National Conference is committed to welfare & upliftment of Common Kissans.

They alleged  that BJP Govt is insensitive towards the problems of the Kisans.

“On October 23, 2021 due to heavy rains and hail storm the paddy and vegetable crop was totally damaged resulting in 100% loss but unfortunately to utter surprise till  date no compensation has been given,” they said.

“Kisans are disappointed and disgusted. Kisans are feeling helpless and Govt is least bothered,” they added.

The National Conference leaders urged the Government to rise from deep slumber and give compensation to the Kisans on war footing.

They also demanded that the farmers who have taken Agriculture land on rent/contract and the labourer should also be taken care of while giving 100% crop loss compensation.

National Conference leaders further demanded that Kisans Credit Cards or no Kisans Credit Cards Kisans be given compensation/relief for 100% crop loss.

They further alleged that BJP Govt has failed to provide and make available inputs to Kisans.

“DAP fertilizer is in acute shortage in the market and Kisan is forced to take on black on much  much exuberant  rates,”.  Kisan is already suffering from huge crop loss, farming is very costlier, return is very less and Govt totally failed to provide DAP, in absence of DAP sowing of next crop is very difficult and delay in sowing can lead to reduce production.

They said this attitude of the Govt shall force the Kisans to come on roads and National Conference shall always support the Kisans in their struggle for their genuine rights. The promise of BJP Govt to double the income of Kisans by 2022 has also proved as a big JUMLA

Addressing the public meeting Mr. Brij Mohan Sharma Vice President also appreciated the problems of the Kisan and condemned the anti Kisans policies of the BJP Govt and termed BJP Govt as Anti Kisans

One Dead, 6 Injured In Truck-Load Carrier Collision

SRINAGAR: A load carrier driver was killed and six on board labourers sustained injuries, three of them critically, after the vehicle collided with an LP (long platform) truck at Tee Pee in north Kashmir’s Kupwara on Monday evening, official sources said.

Quoting official sources news agency GNS reported that the load carrier (Tata Mobile) bearing registration number JK01T 6251 ferrying labourers, collided with the LP truck resulting in on spot death of (load carrier) driver Farooq Ahmad Khan (26) from Marsari and six other on board labourers.

Identifying the injured labourers as Zakir Hussain Bahwar son of Abdul Qayoom, Zubair Ahmad Bahwar son of Ghulam Qadir Bahwar, Bashir Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Nabi Lone, Mohammad Amin Lone son of Feroz-ud-Din Lone, Javid Ahmad Bahwar son of Ghulam Rasool Bahwar and Irshad Ahmad Bahwar son of Mohammad Shafi Bahwar, they told GNS that all of them were evacuated to SDH Kralpora from where three persons with critical injuries were referred to DH Handwara for preferential treatment.

Pertinent to mention here that earlier in the day a private vehicle fell into a deep gorge in Kralpora resulting in the death of a 32-year-old person alongside injuries to three other persons.

New Delhi Creating, Fostering New Fault Lines To Divide And Disempower People Of JK: PDP

SRINAGAR: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed serious concerns over New Delhi’s renewed efforts to create and foster new fault lines between the people of Jammu and Kashmir aimed at dividing and further disempowering the people.

According to statement, the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the PDP that met here with the party President Mehbooba Mufti in chair observed that resorting to naked communalism and pitting people against each other on the basis of religion, cast, sect and ethnicity are the only tools of the BJP to cover-up its failure in governance hence divisive policies are gaining fresh ground and are being promoted unabashedly.

This, the meeting observed, is being done to further divide the people so as to accomplish the agenda of “complete disempowerment” of the people of J&K & cautioned people to not fall prey & give in to such plans. People should collectively rise in unison to defeat such plans, the meeting observed.

The meeting further observed that all the regions of J&K, apart from being robbed of their constitutional & democratic rights are slowly witnessing the catastrophic ramifications of the BJP- RSS plans in sectors like business, employment, right to natural resources etc. Initially, some people had fallen to the false narrative of “empowered Jammu” as a lam justification for all that the Government of India has been doing since August 5, 2019 but it is evident and accepted now that Jammu region is also paying a heavy price for the misadventures and nefarious acts of the BJP government, the meeting observed.

As a whole, the abject failure of the BJP government has given J&K the dubious distinction of having the highest unemployment rate in the country.

In a statement issued by the Party Chief Spokesperson Syed Suhail Bukhari, the PAC resolved that the party would redouble its efforts to fight the designs of dividing and disempowering the people of Jammu & Kashmir and would give voice to the concerns and aspirations of all the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

Expressing anguish over the spree of recent arrests and initiation of action against students within and outside J&K, the PAC termed the government action as uncalled-for and resolved that the party would explore and extend all possible help, including legal, to the victims of such action.

The meeting also reiterated the party’s demand of immediate release of all political prisoners and speedy and impartial investigations into the cases of recent civilian killings.

PAC also condemned the government’s arbitrary actions against employees including a recent spree of illegal terminations. The meeting also expressed grave concern over the deteriorating security situation and spike in violence levels.

COVID-19: Four Deaths, 98 New Infections, 97 Recoveries In 24 Hours

SRINAGAR: The Government on Monday informed that 98 new positive cases of novel Corona virus (COVID-19), 14 from Jammu division and 84 from Kashmir division, have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 332347.Also, 04 COVID deaths have been reported from Kashmir Division.

Moreover, 97 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals including 80from Jammu Division and 17 from Kashmir Division.

The Bulletin informs that no new case of Mucormycosis has been reported today.

On COVID vaccination, the bulletin informs that 81,657 doses of COVID vaccine have been administered in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across J&K to 1,47,15,244.

According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Corona virus (Covid-19), out of 332347 positive cases, 899 are Active Positive (98 in Jammu Division and 801 in Kashmir Division), 327012 have recovered and 4436 have died; 2176 in Jammu division and 2260 in Kashmir division.

The Bulletin further said that out of 16235797 test results available, 332347 samples have tested positive and 15903450 samples have been tested as negative till date. Besides, 33,451 COVID tests have been conducted in last 24 hours.

Till date 3853930 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 6207 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 899 in isolation and 447634 in home surveillance. Besides, 3394754 persons have completed their surveillance period.

Providing district-wise breakup for positive cases reported today, the Bulletin said that Srinagar reported 56 cases, Baramulla reported 10 cases, Budgam reported 04 cases, Pulwama reported no cases, Kupwara reported 05cases, Anantnag reported no cases, Bandipora reported 01case, Ganderbal reported 08 cases while Kulgam and Shopian reported no fresh cases for today.

Similarly, Jammu reported 07cases, Udhampur reported 01case, Rajouri   reported 01 case, Doda reported 02 cases, Kathua reported no case, Samba reported no case, Kishtwar reported 01case,  Poonch reported no case while Ramban and Reasi reported 01 fresh case each.

The bulletin further informs the general public that they can contact helpline numbers 0191-2520982/2674444/2674115/2674908/2549676 in Jammu Division and 0194-2440283/2430581/2452052/2457313/2457312 in Kashmir Division for any kind of guidance and assistance.

In case of emergency, people can avail free ambulance services 24×7 by calling toll free number 108 while as pregnant women and sick infants can avail free services by dialling toll free number 102, the bulletin reads.

Rs 31.89 Cr World Bank Funded IRUP To Strengthen Road Connectivity In North Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Rs 31.89 crores are being spent on the strengthening of the inter-district road connectivity between Baramulla and Bandipora districts in North Kashmir under the World Bank funded Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project (JTFRP).

The Integrated Road Upgradation Project (IRUP) being executed under the component -Reconstruction of Roads and Bridges of JTFRP involves the upgradation of 12.68 km Hamrey- Sultanpora-Nowgam, 6 km Shadipora-Khanpeth Sumbal road (District Baramulla/Bandipora) and  7.186 km Hajin-Ajas via Saidnura (District Bandipora).

The work on the road upgradation project is being executed by J&K Economic Reconstruction Agency and as part of the routine monitoring of the works, Er, Shakti Sagar, Director, Kashmir, JKERA today inspected work on the road upgradation project.

Er Syed Zahoor Hussain , Project Manager, Transport, J&KERA, Kashmir while giving details of the project informed that work on the integrated road upgradation project includes upgradation of road from single lane to the intermediate lane configuration in (Shadipora-Khanpeth-Sumbal ) and (Hajin –Ajas) and strengthening of existing Hamray–Sultanpora–Nowgam road with the laying of  GSB (granular sub-base), WBM (wet bituminous macadam) , BM (bituminous macadam) and construction of  drainage structures and protection works wherever required.

Project Manager, Transport further informed that J&KERA has already completed black topping on the 7.186 km Hajin-Ajas and 6 km Shadipora-Khanpeth roads under the project and work on the protection works is underway.

He added that work on the Hamrey-Sultanpora-Nowgam road section had been impacted due to the issue over supply of the construction materials which has now been sorted out and works on the strengthening of the road surface and protection work is underway in full swing and blacktopping of the road will be taken up during the forthcoming working season.

Director, ERA asked Project Manager, Transport, JKERA to further expedite the pace of work on the project and ensure full compliance to all the quality control parameters. He also directed Project Manager to immediately start the construction of one of the dilapidated culverts on Hajin-Ajas road after seeking no objection certificate from the Irrigation and Flood control department.

The integrated road upgradation project will benefit around 1.5 lac souls living in the more than 30 villages along both the sides of the road and will provide them with all-weather road connectivity with improved riding surface and improved access  to market for their agricultural produce and better  access to health, education etc.

The villages to be benefitted include Koshum Bagh, Rakhi Hajin, Sadurkote, Sadunara, Gund Prang, Ajas, Hamray, Trambgund, Rakhi Hygam, Wussan, Gundi Jehangir, Sadatpora, Sumbal, Tangapora, Bulagam, Shadipora, Rakhi Shilvat, Najin, Tirgam, Gund Khalil, Parihaspora, Turgam, Khanpeth etc.

NTA Announces NEET Result

SRINAGAR: The National Testing Agency has started distributing the results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination (NEET) 2021, the entrance test for undergraduate medical courses via email. The NTA announced results after the Supreme Court of India stayed a Bombay High Court judgement ordering fresh exams for two candidates. The entrance exam was conducted in September at test centres across the country and abroad. Around 16 lakh candidates wrote the exam this year.

The scores will be made available at neet.nta.nic.in shortly according to a statement from the NTA.

Originally scheduled for August 1, the entrance exam was postponed due to the second wave of COVID-19. The exam finally took place on September 12.

NEET is a pen-and-paper test. Candidates record their responses on OMR sheets. Before announcing the result, the NTA released candidates’ recorded responses, OMR sheets and the provisional answer key.

NEET 2021 has been marred with controversy. The Bombay HC had ordered re-exam for two students who alleged they had been given wrong question papers and answer sheets. The top court, however, said results of around 16 lakh candidates cannot be put on hold for two candidates.

Earlier, police in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh arrested groups who allegedly enlisted the support of exam staff and helped candidates solve questions. Some medical aspirants had moved the Supreme Court of India on the ground that the examination was not conducted in a fair and transparent manner. They had asked for the exam to be nullified and held again but the top court did not entertain their plea.

Lakhs have taken the exams and it cannot be cancelled on the basis of some FIRs, the Supreme Court had said.

The Kerala High Court has recently ordered the NTA to probe into the alleged manipulation of OMR sheet of a candidate from the state.
