NTA Announces NEET Result

SRINAGAR: The National Testing Agency has started distributing the results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination (NEET) 2021, the entrance test for undergraduate medical courses via email. The NTA announced results after the Supreme Court of India stayed a Bombay High Court judgement ordering fresh exams for two candidates. The entrance exam was conducted in September at test centres across the country and abroad. Around 16 lakh candidates wrote the exam this year.

The scores will be made available at neet.nta.nic.in shortly according to a statement from the NTA.

Originally scheduled for August 1, the entrance exam was postponed due to the second wave of COVID-19. The exam finally took place on September 12.

NEET is a pen-and-paper test. Candidates record their responses on OMR sheets. Before announcing the result, the NTA released candidates’ recorded responses, OMR sheets and the provisional answer key.

NEET 2021 has been marred with controversy. The Bombay HC had ordered re-exam for two students who alleged they had been given wrong question papers and answer sheets. The top court, however, said results of around 16 lakh candidates cannot be put on hold for two candidates.

Earlier, police in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh arrested groups who allegedly enlisted the support of exam staff and helped candidates solve questions. Some medical aspirants had moved the Supreme Court of India on the ground that the examination was not conducted in a fair and transparent manner. They had asked for the exam to be nullified and held again but the top court did not entertain their plea.

Lakhs have taken the exams and it cannot be cancelled on the basis of some FIRs, the Supreme Court had said.

The Kerala High Court has recently ordered the NTA to probe into the alleged manipulation of OMR sheet of a candidate from the state.

Minor Reshuffle In Admin; Mehmood Shah Posted As Director Industries And Commerce

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government Monday ordered transfers and postings in the civil administration.

According Government Order No.1166-JK(GAD) of 2021 issued by the General Administration Department, Mehmood Ahmad Shah, JKAS, Director, Handloom and Handicrafts, Kashmir, is hereby transferred and posted as Director, Industries and Commerce, Kashmir, with immediate effect, relieving Tazayun Mukhtar, JKAS, Joint Director, Industries and Commerce (S&M), Kashmir of the additional charge of the post. He shall also hold the charge of the posts of Director, Handloom & Handicrafts, Kashmir, Executive Director, J8K Entrepreneurship Development Institute and Director, J&K EDI, in addition to his own duties, till further orders.

According to another Government Order No.1167-JK(GAD) of 2021 Mandeep Kaur, IAS (AGMUT:2004), awaiting orders of adjustment in the General Administration Department, is posted as Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Planning, Development and Monitoring Department, relieving Ms. Sushma Chauhan, IAS, Administrative Secretary, Higher Education Department of the additional charge of the post.

Leadership Is About Saving Kashmiris, Not Feeding Them To Lions: Sajad Gani Lone

SRINAGAR: Peoples Conference convened a meeting of its Central Working Committee (CWC) to discuss important organisational matters and contemporary political situation.

After presiding over the CWC meeting, PC President Sajad Gani Lone in a statement said that leadership in these challenging times means rising up to the occasion and rescuing the Kashmiris instead of feeding them to hungry lions. He asserted that the Peoples Conference will do everything in its power to protect a common Kashmiri from being victimised.

“The situation in J & K is unambiguously extraordinary. People are in pain and there is helplessness all around. The process of disempowerment started on August 5 refuses to abate. Disempowerment has become a continuous process and is achieved incrementally with unfailing frequency. Rarely a day passes when there is not some sort of law aimed at belittling the Kashmiris, humiliating them and further disempowering them. To compound the problems further there is an alien administration which has nothing in common with people of J & K. Resolution of basic issues of day to day survival faced by masses are matters of prime luxury and a rarity”, PC President said.

He maintained that leadership in these challenging times means rising up to the occasion and rescuing the Kashmiris instead of feeding them to hungry lions.

“It is imperative that we define what leadership in Kashmir entails. What does leadership in Kashmir mean today? We firmly believe that Leadership means rising up to the occasion and rescuing the Kashmiris instead of feeding them to hungry lions. The luxury to perform to pre scripted theatres in Kashmir is long gone. It is time the leadership rose from its slumber and understood that every word that the leadership utters has a consequence for the people of Kashmir”, he added

“Every confrontation ends up with a victim and a victor. We have to ask ourselves who will be the new victims if there is going to be a new round of confrontation. A confrontation needs victims- someone who is willing to die. Someone who is willing to go to jail. Someone who is willing to be thrown out of his job. Someone who is willing to be beaten up, interrogated. Our simple question to those who are keen to start a new round of confrontation is that from whom the new victims will be selected. Will it be from the political elite, will it be from their families or will it as per tradition be the poor man’s son.”

He stated that it is a cruel paradox that those parties or leaders who are in search of victims through their quest for confrontation have been victors of the past while creating victims amongst the Kashmiris. The poor man’s son it seems is destined to be the victim yet again ironically at the hands of the victors of the past.

“Manufacturing victims and discoursing victim hood cannot be a substitute for ideology. It seems that some leaders see their survival in strife, struggle and pain of the Kashmiris. They by virtue of their utterances want to incite and goad New Delhi to act harshly against the people of Kashmir. Their utterances are creating an enabling environment for further victimisation of the Kashmiris. The least that these leaders can do is to not facilitate the punishment of Kashmiris through their hollow and high-pitched rhetoric”, he added.

JKPC has a million disagreements with the ruling regime and its leadership. Our ideological differences with the union government are steep and irreconcilable. However, the harsh reality is that they wield unbridled powers to further erode and hurt the interest of Kashmir. The irrational and theatrical provocations of a section of our leadership are only becoming a catalyst for new changes and erosions.

“It is our firm belief that true to the age old Kashmiri adage that the bravado of allowing something to be taken away needs the skills of a magician to get it back. We believe there is no space for further bravado. We on our part have to create an enabling environment for deliverance by Delhi. We are in a hurry that democracy is restored, we are in a hurry that whatever has been taken away be restored. New Delhi is not in any hurry”, he emphasised.

He maintained that the Peoples Conference will not let the ideological difference with the union government become a catalyst for further erosion and an impediment towards the re-empowerment of the people of J&K.

“The conscience of the leadership of our party does not permit us to throw more innocent Kashmiris in harm’s way. We will not do the predatory politics on the victimhood of poor Kashmiri’s children. We will do everything in our power to protect a common Kashmiri from being victimised,” he concluded.

National Conference’s Women Wing Protests Against Arrest Of Kashmiri Students In Agra

SRINAGAR: The women’s wing of National Conference on Monday held a protest rally in Srinagar against arrest of three Kashmiri students in Agra and FIRs against the students for allegedly celebrating Pakistan’s win over India in world T20 match.

The protest was led by former MLA Habba Kadal and Party’s state Women’s wing President Advocate Shameema Firdous. Scores of NC women workers were carrying placards and shouting slogans against the arrest of three Kashmiri students.

Speaking on the occasion, Shameema Firdous said, “We are protesting in favour of those students who had been slapped with FIRs for allegedly celebrating Pakistan win. They are now saying that they won’t even be given passports now and they would not be able to continue their studies.”

She said that while Amit Shah talked about talking and engaging youth and students during his visit to the valley, those studying in Agra and Aligarh were attacked violently and slapped with cases of sedition.

“Even the college authorities have clarified that these students did not shout anything seditious. They are only trying to push Kashmiri students against the wall and victimizing them,” she said.

They demanded that these cases should be withdrawn immediately.

Barred From Visiting Family Of Slain Anantnag Youth: Mehbooba Mufti

SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti was on Monday barred from visiting the slain youth’s family in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Mehbooba was scheduled to visit slain Shahid Ahmad’s residence today, who was killed in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Quoting Mehbooba news agency KNO  reported that that she was not allowed to meet the family of slain youth in Anantnag.

She said that when anyone is being killed by the militants, they are being allowed to meet the slain family, “but it is unfortunate that whenever anyone is being killed in forces action, no one is being allowed to meet the bereaved family”.

“So far, no compensation has been given to the bereaved family. The government should take steps to provide compensation to the family of Shahid and his NoK’s must be given the job as well,” she said.

Meanwhile, a top police official while talking to KNO that the PDP chief was not allowed to visit the place due to “security reasons”

Govt Wants These Villages To Convert Into Tourism Spots

SRINAGAR: In a major development, 35 picturesque areas in five districts of Jammu division have been identified for transformation as Tourist Villages in order to promote rural tourism optimally and exhibit unparalleled historical, cultural and spiritual values. However, the Deputy Commissioners of remaining districts are dilly-dallying on the same even after explicit directions of the Lieutenant Governor, reported Daily Excelsior.

On September 3, 2021, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched J&K Tourist Village Network under Mission Youth with the aim to transform villages of the Union Territory known for historical, picturesque beauty and cultural significance into Tourist Villages.

“The youth-led sustainable tourism initiative will strengthen rural economy and community entrepreneurship, empowering youth and women by providing direct and indirect employment opportunities,” he had stated at the event.

Quoting the official information newspaper Daily Excelsior reported that lists of 32 areas for transformation as Tourist Villages have been submitted to the concerned authorities by the Deputy Commissioners of five districts of Jammu region.

However, not even a single area has been identified for the purpose by the Deputy Commissioners of remaining five districts—Kathua, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Reasi and Ramban.

As far as Jammu district is concerned, Daskal Ambrain, Gharana, Jhajjar Kotli, Mathuar and Surinsar have been identified for development as Tourist Village while as in Doda district such areas are Batote, Dhara, Khellani, Lanchar, Mounda, Noorihanga and Thanala.

Similarly, Arai, Behramgala, Dogrian, Loran, Mendhar, Nangali, Rajpura, Sakhimaidan/Chajjla and Sallonia/Sawjian in Poonch district have been identified for development as Tourist Villages while as such areas in Samba are Chamliyal, Ghagwal, Mahoregarh, Nud, Purmandal and Utterbehni. In Udhampur, such areas are Basantgarh, Chulna, Dudu, Lehar and Inch, Mantalai and Pachound.

The Tourist Villages concept under Mission Youth initiative is aimed at developing villages having distinction in terms of scenic beauty, adventurous terrain, art & cultural, history & archaeology by providing basic amenities.

Broadly, the objectives of the programme are to develop new tourism destinations to the world standard; integrate social, cultural and spiritual characteristics with economic contours; provide all infrastructure facilities required by the tourists within such selected village; develop all selected villages in an integrated holistic manner; converge resources and expertise through coordinated action with all stakeholders and to introduce new concept of rural development based on integrated area development approach.

The activities to be covered under the programme are promotion of local hospitality, adventure and sports facilities, construction of budget accommodation, tourist complexes, wayside amenities, Tourist Facilitation Centre, special tourism projects, sound and light recreational facilities and eco-friendly transportation facilities.

In response to a question, sources said that the villages to be covered under the programme will be selected on the basis of its tourism potential and infrastructural gaps. “The villages which qualify for any of the thematic categories as specified by Mission Youth in consultation with Tourism Department will be assessed on the basis of tourism potential and infrastructural gaps by inter-sectoral expert committee of Mission Youth”, they added.

About the eligibility of youth, they informed that only the youth groups with minimum 5 youth members will be eligible for financial assistance under the scheme. Moreover, the beneficiary must be unemployed and registered with the concerned District Employment & Counseling Centre.

“The eligible youth groups will be provided financial assistance to the tune of Rs 10 lakh including Mudra loan of Rs 8.50 lakh from Lending Bank and the Mission Youth will provide an amount of Rs 1.5 lakh or 15% of project cost (whichever is minimum) as special upfront incentive (subsidy) under the scheme,” newspaper Daily Excelsior quoted sources as having said.

Stating that the scheme will be monitored through a robust monitoring mechanism to ensure the functional efficacy, they said that post- sanction monitoring of the cases will be conducted by Mission Youth through District Level Task Force.

“In order to actualize the vision for developing potential rural areas into world standard Tourist Villages, a dedicated Task Force will be constituted to facilitate formulation and implementation of action plan for selected circuits, including development of perspective plan, convergence of schemes and sectoral coordination,” Daily Excelsior quoted sources as having said.

One Dead, Three Injured In Road Mishap

SRINAGAR: A 32-year-old man was killed and three persons were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident in Kralpora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday, officials said.

A vehicle bearing registration number JK01V 9561 while on way to Kupwara fell into a deep gorge in Upper Nachaya area of Kralpora on November 1,2021.

Quoting officials news agency GNS reported that the car (JK01V/9561) while on way to Kupwara fell into a deep gorge in Upper Nachaya area.

@Four persons onboard it were injured and immediately rushed to Sub-District Hospital Tangdhar. However one of them, Nissar Ahmad Khan (32) son of Ghulam Hussan Khan of Karlpora died before he could be admitted there, they said.

The injured have been identified as Iqbal Ahmad Awan (24) son of Abdul Rasheed of Karlpora, Altaf Ahmad Awan (33) son of Abdul Rasheed Awan, Ashiq Hussain Bhat (33) son of Abdullah Bhat of Lone Hari Kralpora.

Police has registered and further investigations are underway.
