Lt Governor greets people on Guru Gobind Singh ji Jayanti

Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu has greeted the people on Guru Gobind Singh ji Jayanti.

In his message of felicitations, the Lt Governor observed that Guru Gobind Singh ji is an apostle of social equality, universal brotherhood, altruism, social service and righteousness.

He urged the people to cultivate the spirit of dedication and valour epitomized by the great Guru and hoped that the celebration of this auspicious day would strengthen the bonds of amity, communal harmony and brotherhood.

The Lt Governor prayed for sustained peace, progress and prosperity in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Member Central Waqf Council meets Lt Governor

Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, Member, Central Waqf Council, on Wednesday met Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu at the Raj Bhavan in Jammu.

The Lt Governor and Dr Andrabi discussed about the various important matters concerning the working of the Waqf Board and the due administration of Auqaf.

Dr Andrabi shared with the Lt Governor her views about the prevailing scenario in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and also apprised the Lt Governor about several measures initiated by the Council for protection and retrieval of the Waqf Properties and removal of encroachment and implementing Educational and Women Welfare Schemes for skill development.

Labour Deptt provides Micro Credit Cards to registered workers

Marking a step towards financial empowerment and financial inclusion of hitherto uncovered sections of society, the Department of Labour, District Jammu, on Wednesday registered labourers in the form of Micro Credit Cards.

Micro Credit Cards with credit facility of Rs 10,000 were distributed to the eligible workers at an awareness camp, Phinder Bishnah in Jammu.

The function was attended by Commissioner Secretary, Labour and Employment Department, Sourabh Bhagat; Labour Commissioner J&K, Abdul Rashid War; Deputy Labour Commissioner Jammu, Kanta Devi and several other officials of the department.

In his address, the Commissioner Secretary acknowledged the efforts and the resolution of the department to start New Year 2020 with  the financial  empowerment of the workers, for whom the department is meant.

Meanwhile, he also listened to the grievances of the public viz – viz labour department on one to one basis and assured them of speedy disposal.

He exhorted the officers and the officials of the department to take a pledge on the eve of the New Year to make extra efforts for delivering best possible and hassle free services to the targeted lot.

The Labour Commissioner J&K spoke about the recently launched pension scheme by the government of India for workers and motivated the departmental officials for working as a team for its effective implementation.

Later, the Commissioner Secretary presented labour Micro Credit Cards to the registered Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW).

Earlier, Assistant Commissioner Labour Jammu, Devia Nanda, welcomed the guests and the participants. She also apprised the audience about various schemes of the labour department.

The function concluded with the vote of thanks by the Assistant Labour Commissioner Jammu and the members of the Panchayat Phinder village.

Efforts underway to promote adventure sports, tourism in JK: Advisor Sharma

Advisor to Lt Governor, K K Sharma on Wednesday said that the efforts are underway to promote adventure sports and tourism in a big way so that the Jammu and Kashmir becomes one of the most sought after destinations globally.

The Advisor was speaking at a function organized by the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering at Gulmarg.

The Advisor said that the Union Territory is replete with all the necessary topographical and geographical features, which are necessary for promoting adventure sports, tourism and the requisite mechanism has been put in place for roping in major international players. He said that the same would ensure that Jammu and Kashmir emerges as one of the most sought after destinations in this category, which would in turn give the tourist industry a much needed boost and fillip.

While enumerating the measures being taken for promotion of the overall tourism in the Union Territory, the Advisor said several promotional activities and fairs have been done recently in different parts of the country for ensuring that the tourist flow to this part of India increases. “This would in turn contribute to the economy besides generating employment opportunity to the locals and skilled youth”, he added.

The Advisor while complementing the Institute for organizing these types of events said that besides providing the training to the youth of country these events also serve the purpose of acquainting the people from other states with those of Union Territory and valuable exchange of  ideas and knowing different cultures.

The Advisor later distributed certificates among the youth from different parts of the country who had participated in the 14-day learning-cum-training programme organized by the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering.

J&K Health Society Executive Committee finalises ‘Programme Implementation Plan’

Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education Department, Atal Dulloo, on Wednesday chaired the Executive Committee meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Health Society. The meeting was held to discuss and finalize the Programme Implementation Plan (PIP) for financial year 2020-2021.

The FC said that the government is proposing a slew of measures in the PIP for the overall strengthening of the health care facilities. He said that the plan with string of ambitious interventions would be submitted for the approval of the Government of India.

“The department is incorporating many new initiatives in the PIP for the next financial year, which will give a major impetus to the health care services” he added.

The FC said that focus would be laid on the human resource development, making available new medical equipments, new services and training for augmenting health care services.

Mission Director, National Health Mission, Bhupinder Kumar gave a detailed presentation, highlighting the new initiatives that are to be proposed in the PIP.

The FC also directed the authorities to start oxygen generation plants in all new medical colleges. He also stressed on making Newborn and Infant Critical Care Unit (NICCU) centres functional in all   new medical colleges. He also said that emphasis will be laid on setting up hybrid ICUs in the district hospitals and ensure proper functioning of Health and Wellness Centres.

“Besides, the focus in PIP will be on Biomedical Waste Management, Biomedical Equipment Management, Diploma in National Board courses in district hospitals, augmentation of 102 and 108 ambulance services, blood collection and transportation units, provision for free drugs and diagnostic services, skill labs among other programmes and services” the FC said.

The meeting was attended by Director Health Services, Jammu, Renu Khajuria; Principal, Government Medical College, Jammu, Sunanda Raina; Director, Indian System of Medicine J&K, Mohan Singh; Director Family Welfare, Arun Sharma; Director Finance, H&ME, Mohammad Rafiq; Managing Director, J&K Medicines Supplies Corporation Limited, Shiv Kumar Gupta; Controller Drugs, Lokita Khajuria; Joint Director (Planning) H&ME, Madan Lal and officers from other departments. Other officials from Kashmir division attended the meeting through video conferencing.

Advisor Khan reviews stock, supply position in Kashmir valley

Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan, on Wednesday chaired a meeting of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department to review the stock and supply position of essential commodities in the Kashmir valley.

The meeting among others was attended by Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, PK Pole; and Director FCS&CA Kashmir, Bashir Ahmad Khan.

The Advisor directed the concerned to give priority to the movement of vehicles from Jammu to Srinagar carrying rations, and other essential commodities.

Director FCS&CA Kashmir informed the meeting that sufficient stock of ration including, LPG and Kerosene is available in Valley as the stock has been already replenished.

The meeting was also told that necessary directions have been passed to all the concerned regarding the movement of supply trucks on priority basis on the Highway.

Militant associate arrested in Ganderbal: Police

Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a militant associate in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

A police spokesman in  a statement said that he has been identified as Rayees Ahmad Lone resident of Gund, Ganderbal.

“As per the police records, he is involved in providing support to the active LeT militants operating in the area. Initial investigation reveals that the accused had supplied multiple SIM cards to militants affiliated with proscribed outfit LeT,” said the spokesman.

“As per police records he had also provided help and assistance to a Pakistani militant who was later killed in an encounter at Kullan Ganderbal in year 2019,”he said.

“A Case FIR No. 69/2019 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Gund in the instant matter. Further investigation is in progress,” said police spokesman in a statement.
