Jamia Desecration: Sehrai anguished over ‘un-Islamic’ act

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai on Tuesday expressed anguish over the “UnIslamic act” of desecration of Historical central Jamia Masjid Srinagar by some disgruntled elements.

Sehrai in a statement said the pulpit of Masjid is meant for spreading the sacred message of the Qur’an and Sunnah and create unity of heart and soul among the Muslim community. It is unfortunate that some miscreants want to create a wedge in society.

Sehrai said that such elements are not serving any cause of the people of Kashmir or that of Islam but causing hurdles in it. Such nefarious activities are a cause of great concern for the entire Muslims. He said places of worship and “pulpits are signs of Allah and revered seats of our religion and we as Muslims cannot allow anyone to dishonour these places.”

He said waving flags and raising slogans from the pulpit, this action is condemnable and can’t be lauded from the pulpits of historic Jamia Masjid. He added that the motive of “these agencies is to weaken the ongoing people’s movement of the right to self-determination and these elements are being used to divert this just movement by changing its basic nature and character under the pretence of perusing some global agenda.

Rs 8800 fine recovered from erring traders at Srinagar

Srinagar

A joint team of enforcement wing of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) and Legal Metrology Department (LMD) recovered Rs 8800 fine from erring shopkeepers for violation of rules.

The team headed by Deputy Director, FCS&CA conducted market checking at Hazratbal. Over sixty establishments including meat, milk shops, bakers, restaurants, provisional stores, vegetable and fruit sellers, medical shops and diagnostic labs were checked.

During the inspection, some shopkeepers were found selling expired food items, underweight packages and violating other laws. The erring shopkeepers were penalized with Rs 8800 on the spot.

JKSSB reschedules interview, counselling for Naib Tehsildar posts

Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has rescheduled the Interview and Counselling-cum-Document verification of the shortlisted candidates for the post of Naib Tehsildar.

According to JKSSB spokesman, Interview and Counselling-cum-Document verification for Naib Tehsildar posts earlier scheduled to be held on 5 January 2019 shall be now held on 12 January 2019.

The venue, time and other conditions as envisaged in the original notice, shall remain the same, the spokesman added.

J&K Bank Officers Association Felicitates Retired Employees

Jammu and Kashmir Bank Officers Association organized annual felicitation of retired officials of the Bank at Zorawar Singh Auditorium, Jammu.

Jammu and Kashmir Bank Chairman Parvez Ahmad inaugurated annual felicitation function of retired officials of the Bank at Zorawar Singh Auditorium, Jammu.

A bank spokesman in a statement said the felicitation function which was graced by J&K Bank Chairman & CEO, Parvez Ahmed as Chief Guest witnessed the felicitation of 149 officers of the bank who attained the age of superannuation during the last two years. J&K Bank Executive Presidents P.K. Tikoo and R.K. Chibber, President  Rakesh Gandotra and Arun Gandotra were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the retired fraternity of the Bank, Parvez Ahmed said, “The Bank where it stands today is the result of persistent hard work and passion of the retired employees over the years who built a strong foundation year on and have given a stable, progressive institution to the current generation of JK Bank family. I personally recall all the revered Officers and senior teammates with whom I learnt and worked over the years and express my gratitude to the generous guidance that I was offered over the course of my career. I must mention the strong culture of mentorship that was present at that time and I urge upon today’s leaders to revive and enhance the concept of mentoring junior management employees during various assignments and build a strong culture of the collective spirit of growth.”

Speaking about retired employee welfare, he said, “The welfare and secure future of employees and their families is an idea most close to my heart and I feel very satisfied at the various steps and new schemes we have undertaken particularly towards both working and retired employees. Your contribution to this premier Institution is exemplary which will be remembered by generations of J&K Bank. While this forum is an opportunity of interaction with you, I am delighted to learn how keenly you all continue to think about the welfare of the Bank by offering your valuable, experience rich suggestions towards the overall processes and direction of the Bank.”

Speaking about the Bank’s vision for the current financial year, he said, “Bank has seen six consecutive quarters of profitability and going forward, we will witness favorable results in the current quarter as well. Bank while building on its age-old values and passionate spirit of service is embracing new practices via its long-term transformation strategy which has started to give positive results. Go all out to leverage our potential in business mobilization to maximize the business of the Bank to not only ward off the dynamic risks emerging in the banking sector but also to offset the various cost pressures on our balance sheet be it the enhanced provisioning, wage revision, regularizations in the subordinate cadre, career progression across the board and incremental investment in establishment of infrastructure for employees comfort and convenience. We must collectively strive hard to achieve the envisaged profit figure of Rs.2000 Crore business by the end of FY 2021-22, and given the sincerity, commitment, and dedication of the bank’s human capital towards the institutional business goals I have firm belief that we will surpass the figure. This shall also enable the bank to shore up its capital base by plough back of profits.”

“Alongside, we consistently strive to give back positively to the society through our CSR initiatives. On the occasion, the Chairman also consented to take up the pensioner’s demand to include the retirees of the bank under the ambit of MoU signed between J&K Bank and SMVDU Narayana Hospital which offers a special rebate of 15 % on all their services,” he said.

The Chairman also assented to revise the Family Pension in respect of Twenty Three cases pertaining to those who got retired before 1996 and were drawing a meager pension of Rs 3000 per month.

Earlier Arjun Singh Rathore Vice President JKBOA Jammu unit welcomed all the dignitaries at the event. While extolling the role of all the retirees present at the venue, he termed them as real heroes who have strengthened the Bank for which their services can never be forgotten.

He also described  Parvez Ahmed as a Peoples Chairman for his empathetic approach and sensitivity towards the needs of each and every employee of J&K Bank family.

Tassaduq Madni, President of AIJKBOF expressed the bank’s indebtedness and gratefulness towards its ex-employees as the seeds of their hard work are now bearing fruits towards securing the current generation’s future, a legacy which must be carried forward earnestly.

The President of J&K Bank Retired Employee’s Federation S. Mohinder Singh gave a brief overview of the transitions witnessed by the bank since its inception in 1938. The vote of thanks was presented by Vice President of JKBOA Jammu Unit.

DGP chairs security review meeting at PCR Kashmir

Director General of Police Dilbag Singh-IPS on Tuesday chaired a security review meeting of officers at PCR Kashmir. The meeting was attended by ADGP L&O Munir Ahmad Khan-IPS, IGP Kashmir S.P Pani-IPS, Range DIsG, District SSP and SSP PCR Kashmir.

While reviewing the security measures DGP Dilbag Singh urged the police officials to adopt a highly dedicated and professional approach while dealing with the crime matters and generate a social impact for the betterment of society.

While appreciating the role of the police force in tackling law and order and other challenges on ground, DGP also complimented the police force for all its good work done in past including successful conduct of Panchayat/ULB elections which has earned the appreciation for Jammu and Kashmir.

While impressing the resolve of J&K Police to fight against social evils, DGP enjoined upon the officers to act strictly against drug peddlers to curb the problem of drug abuse. DGP also insisted to have the commitment of highest order in curbing social crimes.

DGP  congratulated the police officers who were promoted under NFS scheme and assured that more welfare measures are being initiated for the betterment of police force.

DGP assured that adequate resources will be provided for creating a better work environment.

Expressing compliments and new year greetings, DGP urged all the ranks for ensuring transparent and people friendly policing.

Earlier in the day DGP along with IGP Kashmir had visited district Pulwama and interacted with the jawans and officials in the district.

Seek opinion on various matters under Rule 52: Law Deptt to Administrative Secretaries

The Law Department has asked all the administrative secretaries to seek its opinion on various matters under Rule 52 of the Jammu and Kashmir Government Business.

According to a circular issued by the Law Secretary, Achal Sethi, the administrative secretaries shall consult the Law Department for the construction of Statutes, Acts, Regulations and Statutory Rules, Orders and notifications, any general legal principles arising out of any case, establishment or withdrawal of any prosecution at the occurrence of any administrative department and grounding of important contracts entered into by the government.

Moreover, every such reference shall be accompanied by a precise statement of facts of the case and the point or points on which the counsel of the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs is preferred, the circular further said.

Matriculation result: Geelani proud of achievements despite everyday’s ‘violence’

Congratulating the students on passing their exams with flying colours, Hurriyat (g) Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani extended his praise to “resilient” youth and their families for successfully qualifying the Matriculation examinations.

The spokesman said that entire society and Geelani is proud of this achievement despite everyday violence in the state.

The success of our youth becomes extraordinary in these extraordinary times we live in amidst “massive killings, maiming and blinding, crackdown and torture”. Through your hard work, dedication and diligence, you have proved that Kashmir’s future is progressing towards an undeniable destiny of freedom, he said.

Pro-freedom leaders said that your success has further reinforced the narrative of resistance that education and freedom struggle are intertwined. Geelani further said that I take this opportunity to reflect, and to remind our youth on certain critical challenges that Kashmir and our people are facing for the last seven decades, and more so in last several years.

The on-going violence of the state is more than just physical, psychological or spiritual and Delhi continues its onslaught on our society at all levels of our appeal to reason and emotions. It is thus not surprising that education itself has become a site of both violence and resistance in our struggle for freedom.

Our students, educational institutions and centres of critical learning are facing an “aggressive” assault, which not only seeks to tame us as a community but also aims to produce docile and subservient citizens for the state, Hurriyat chairman said.

The pro-freedom leader said that education ensures that an individual becomes self-aware, which is crucial for him to break the shackles of subservience. This is true of our pious and rightful struggle as well. Our educated and conscious young people are taking up the cause of resistance. This is not a new phenomenon though, as being propagated by the Indian vassals. Kashmir’s struggle for its freedom has thrived only through the sacrifices of brilliant men and women who have for decades espoused, fought and “martyred” for this just cause. Resistance will only endure if the struggle against suppression brings empathy, compassion and emotional labour among those who are striving or facing violence; regardless of one’s religion, gender, class or geography.
