Kashmiri CRPF officer died fighting Maoists in Jharkhand

In an unusual twist to the earlier version, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) said on Tuesday that an Assistant Commandant from Jammu and Kashmir died in Jharkhand during an anti-Maoist operation, IANS reported.

Earlier, the family of Gulam Jeelani Khan, who belonged to Manzgam village in Baramulla district, was told he had been electrocuted. It was not clear why the family had been given this version, the report said.

On Tuesday afternoon, the CRPF said on its official Twitter handle: “Assistant Commandant Gulam Jeelani Khan of 157 Battalion sacrificed his life in an anti-Maoist operation in Sinjani, Khunti, Jharkhand.

“The young officer saved the lives of his fellow soldiers and made ultimate sacrifice in the service of nation while leading his troops from the front,” IANS quoted the CRPF Twitter.

The report quoted official sources as having said the body was being sent to the officer’s village in the Kashmir Valley for last rites.

GoI launches Twitter Handle to create awareness about cybercrimes

To create mass awareness about cybercrimes, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has launched a Twitter handle @CyberDost, where pertinent posts are being placed regularly.

“The Twitter handle is regularly educating people not to share their user IDs, passwords, ATM/Credit Card PIN, OTPs etc,” said a communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs addressed to the Chief Secretaries of all the states.

The Twitter handle, according to the communication, also informs people about various channels through which they can file their complaints about cybercrimes. “The handle is also aimed at mitigating the possibility of commotion in normal business activities or losses due to cybercrimes and misuse of cyberspace for promoting vulgarity,” it said adding that with the whopping increase in the use of technology, some people are becoming victims of various cyber crimes such cyberbullying and extortion.

“The Twitter handle has been launched to spread attentiveness in preventing these crimes to a considerable level,” the communication said.

It said the information shared on the twitter handle will boost basic knowledge about cybercrimes and precautions to be taken for deterrence thereof.

“The general public is requested to make use of the twitter handle @CyberDost and register their complaints through the same,” it said.

As per a notice issued by the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs the advertisement notice along with the memorials inviting applications from the eligible advocates of the state has been uploaded on the website of the Law department www .jklaw.nic.in.

The last date of the receipt of hard copy of the application form has been fixed as 21-01-2019.

Div Com Kashmir issues weather advisory

As per the communication received from Indian Meteorological Centre, Rambagh, Srinagar, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan on Tuesday issued a weather advisory according to which a spell of moderate rain or snow is expected at widespread places of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions with possibility of heavy snowfall in isolated placed with maximum intensity and spread on 4th and 5th January and gradual decrease thereafter.

According to details, this weather system may lead to disruption of surface and air transportation like National Highway (Srinagar-Jammu, Mughal Road) etc. Furthermore, higher reaches of Kashmir, Ladakh and Hilly areas of Jammu most likely to receive moderate snowfall during 4th and 5th January with the possibility of heavy snowfall in isolated places. In addition to it, there will be a significant fall in day temperature and a slight rise in night temperature.

Accordingly, Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir Division including Leh and Kargil have been asked to advise people not to venture in avalanche prone areas during this period. The concerned Deputy Commissioners are directed to activate their control rooms and ensure that the snow clearance equipment is placed at proper places for snow clearance in respect of their districts as per the snow clearance plan.

Elderly woman dies in Lanagate road mishap

Srinagar

An elderly woman died on Tuesday after a two-wheeler she was riding in met with an accident in Langate area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday.

The deceased woman has been identified as Saleema Begum, 50, wife of Nazir Ahmad Mir, a resident of Safalpora Qaziabad.

Reports said that Saleema Begum was riding as a pillion rider and when a speeding tipper hit her, resulting in serious injurious to her. Begum was soon rushed to Sub-district hospital Langate where the doctors declared her brought dead.

Meanwhile, police have taken the cognizance of the case and further investigations are going on.

Soura youth goes missing, family urges him to return home

A 25-year-old youth from Bilal Colony, Soura, Srinagar district of central Kashmir has gone missing even as police said it was investigating “all angles” into it.

Reports said that Nadib Hanief Khan son of Mohammad Hanief Khan left his home at Bilal Colony, Soura for offering prayers on Friday last and is missing since then.

“He should return home as his mother is suffering from cancer and if he is with somebody he should be let go on a humanitarian basis,” Mohammad Hanif Khan, Nadib’s father, told news agency GNS. “Nadib’s family comprises his parents and a brother”.

The family has also submitted a missing report with the local police station Soura in this regard.

A police officer concerned told GNS that a missing report has been received from the family yesterday and investigations have been initiated.

“We are investigating all angles,” the police officer said, responding in affirmative to a query whether investigations entail the possibility of Nadib having joined militancy.

The youth according to family sources has done some course related to mobile and computers repairs besides iPhone programming in Mumbai.
