Geelani hails Pakistan’s stand on Kashmir at UNGA

Srinagar

Hurriyat (G) Conference chairman, Syed Ali Geelani while hailing the Pakistani stand taken in UN General Assembly, said that it reflects the historical facts and ground realities.

Reacting to the UNGA remarks made by Indian ambassador, Hurriyat Chairman in a statement said that it was full of lies, deceit, arrogance and persistent denial of basic and ground realities. He said that we are neither surprised nor did we expect anything substantial to be delivered there, because of the mindset India prefers to be in denial mode since the tragedy of Kashmir was born in 1947.

A picture of Hurriyat (G) Conference inside the main gate of his residence after he was not allowed by the authorities to move out.

Claiming to be the largest democracy with multicultural society and a fast-growing economic hub, it can’t dare to accept the bare and internationally recognized issue, not because they are not in knowledge of the fact, but only because they have fed their majority vote bank with this false and baseless rhetoric of “Atoot Ang” for the last 71 years and for the fear of losing power they continue to poison their minds. Lies even repeated for centuries and by the whole world, they still remain lies, said Syed Ali Geelani.

Hailing Pakistan ambassador  for her stance, Geelani said all member countries including India is aware about the historical evidences and aspects of Kashmir issue, saying it was India that took the Kashmir issue to the  United Nations and  added that eighteen resolutions were passed in favour of right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and this august institution stands guarantee for this resolution, but unfortunately it has miserably failed to safeguard its own reputation and unless it shuns the stains of importance, inability, and helplessness, oppressed people like those of Jammu and Kashmir will continue to live in hell like atmosphere under the threatening shadow of gun from its oppressor.

Haling Pakistan efforts, he said that this country, despite its domestic turmoil and neighbors aggression, always stood through every thick and thin with the helpless people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Geelani paid glowing tributes to two militants killed in Budgam encounter with government forces today early morning.

JK institutions under systemic attack: NC

Srinagar

National Conference on Thursday expressed dismay over state government’s relentless attacks on the working of the state as well autonomous institutions in the state.

In a statement issued from party headquarters Nawa-e-Subah, party General Secretary Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar said that the governor administration has embarked on a mission to change the existing state laws which should have been the exclusive domain of a democratically elected government.

“Legally speaking state Governor has the power to change state laws but he has no popular mandate to make far-reaching changes in our institutions. The recent SAC decision approving the amendments in JK municipal Act is a case in point where unlike earlier elections to the post of mayor will be done through a secret ballot,” he said.

“What compelled the governor administration to bring such drastic changes which has no precedence in our system? Even in the Legislative Assembly, we have moved to open voting for Rajya Sabha and MLC elections. Same is the case with elections to country’s President and Vice President also which do not have a secret ballot as such. As per norms, the voter shows his or her ballot paper to the election agent concerned,” he said.

Asking governor administration to focus more on security-related issues of the state, the general secretary said, “Our state is going through very tough times with everyday killings, maiming, CASO’s, night raids, arrests becoming the order of the day. Dealing with the ground situation and ensuring a sense of security among people here must be HEG’s first priority. He should see himself as the caretaker first and focus more on facilitating a peaceful environment in the state.”

Sagar said state administration is trying to undermine the democratic process in J&K. “Bringing about drastic changes in our administrative set-up is completely uncalled for. It belittles the value of our institutions and demeans the very basis of our democratic setup. Obliterating the transparency in our institutions is something that will have far-reaching consequences,” he said.

Party General Secretary said that it is highly unbecoming of the incumbent governor administration to challenge the veracity of the state’s political set up. “On one hand governor says that he hasn’t come with any political agenda but his actions speak otherwise. It seems that those who are hell-bent to destroy the socio-political set up of our state are dictating terms to state administration,” he said.

“The recently concluded ULB elections should serve as an eye opener for those who made tall claims about the polling percentage in Kashmir. It seems that they are willingly ignoring the ground realities in Kashmir which will inevitably have serious repercussions on our state. It’s, therefore, time for the powers that be to accept the ground realities and start addressing them. If they continue to dismiss the genuine concerns expressed by our party from time to time when the situation is going to get murkier and murkier,” he said.

General Secretary said that although party decided to stay away from these elections, the brazen fiddling with our institutions is uncalled for. “People of the state are observant to everything that is being done to our institutions,” he said.

JRL pays tributes to slain militants killed in Budgam

Srinagar

Paying glowing tributes to Mukhtar Ahmed Khan of Arizal and Muhammad Amin Mir of Pampore, the two militants killed in an encounter at Zugoo Arizal area of central Kashmir’s Budgam, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik said that killing of our youth  and the continuing bloodshed in Kashmir is deeply painful.

The spokesman said that country’s intransigence has pushed the youth to the wall as they fight and spill their blood to resist it, while seeking their legitimate right, the right to self-determination

JRL said that it was because of the lingering Kashmir dispute besides New-Delhi’s obduracy that Kashmir is witnessing bloodbath almost every day as the youth are selectively being “martyred” under a planned policy. The Leadership said despite the large-scale killing of youth, voices to demand the exercise of their birthright, the right to self-determination, is getting shriller with every passing day and the resolve of the people of Kashmir to fight the worst “oppression” unleashed on them by the rulers of Delhi is getting strengthened on the ground.

The JRL also expressed its deep anguish and concern over the prolonged and illegal detention of a number of  resistance leaders including Shabir Ahmed Shah, Advocate Shahid-ul- Islam, Altaf Ahmed Fantoosh, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Mehrajudin Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Shahid Yousuf, businessman Zahoor Watali and women leaders that include Asiya Andrabi her close associates Fehmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen who are lodged in New-Delhi’s notorious Tihar Jail under the “fictitious” charges framed by the NIA and ED and said that these leaders are even deprived of the basic fundamental right of  free trial as the hearing of the cases is being deliberately delayed and they not even produced before the respective courts with the sole intention of prolonging their illegal detention which is nothing but a pure political vendetta. The leadership said that by using the delaying tactics, the hearing of their cases has now been postponed to December 5, 2018.

The Leadership said the jail authorities are not treating these prisoners well and they are even denied the basic health care facilities including medicine etc. They said it is regrettable that internationally recognized rules of treatment with prisoners in jails are being trampled in a country which claims to be the largest democracy in the world.

The JRL urged the world forums, OHCHR, Amnesty International, International Red-Cross, Asia Watch, and others to take notice of the plight of Kashmiri prisoners lodged in various jails including Tihar-Delhi, Kathua, Udhampur, Kotbalwal, Central-jail-Srinagar and get a firsthand account of the ill-treatment meted out to the prisoners. The JRL urged these bodies to intervene and impress upon New-Delhi to end the unjustified and illegal detention of Kashmiri inmates languishing the prisons.

The Leadership also strongly denounced the NIA notices to Hurriyat leaders Aga Syed Al Hassan Al Mousvi, Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi and fresh raids on the Kashmiri businessmen stating that these tactics are a part of a continuous plan to defame the movement and put pressure on the resistance leadership.

Meanwhile, the leadership strongly condemned the joint raids by police and other forces in Damhal-Khashipora, in Islamabad district where two 70-years-old men and 20 students were detained, who were about to appear in the exams and missed that because of their illegal detention. The JRL termed the police action brutal stating that forces are playing with the career of students and expressed solidarity with them, terming the police action against them as totally unjustified and illegal.
