Controversial Kousar Nag Yatra issue: Pandits reach central government

KL Report

SRINAGAR

A group of Kashmiri pandits Friday submitted a memorandum to Home Minister Rajnath Singh against the state government decision of not allowing them to proceed towards Kousar Nag.

The delegation also met Minister of State for PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh, who is also a member in Lok Sabha from Udhampur, and demanded an explanation over the step taken by the state government.

Sources said that the central government has sought a report from the Omar government while asking why the trip from the Aharbal route was cancelled.

Vinod Pandit, All Party Migration Coordination Committee (APMCC), has reportedly alleged that the government has acted under pressure from separatists. “The J&K government acted under pressure from the separatists and sacrificed our Yatra (Kousarnag),” Vinod said.

Pertinently, a series of protests are being held in the valley against the Kousar Nag Hindu Yatra and the masses are alleging it an attempt to “change the demography of Kashmir.”

Meanwhile, Kashmiri Pandits in the US have sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue. The Kashmiri Overseas Association (KOA) in a letter to Modi and Rajnath Singh urged that the Kousar Nag Yatra should be allowed to continue with immediate effect.

Kousar Nag not a Pilgrimage site: Hurriyat (M)

KL Report

SRINAGAR

Strongly condemning the house arrest of APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday, APHC spokesman termed the action as a clear sign of “frustration” and continuation of the policy of political vendetta.

Expressing serious concern, over designating Kausarnag as a new Hindu Yatra destination, the spokesman said that government by doing so has acted in haste to please Hindu extremist elements in order to gain their sympathies. The spokesman said, “Hurriyat has always been strong advocate of communal harmony, and has passionately been pleading for the return of Kashmiri Pandits to their ancestral homes besides calling for the protection of religious places of the Pandits.”

The spokesman stated that there were some powerful non-state communal elements who under the pretext of protecting the Hindu shrines want to spoil the centuries old communal harmony of Kashmir. The spokesman said, “It is strange that these elements all of a sudden have discovered Kausarnag as a Pilgrimage site which otherwise everybody knows as a famous tourist destination.”

He said that all this was being done in a systematic way in order to undermine the Muslim majority character of Jammu and Kashmir which can jeopardize the communal harmony of the region besides changing the distinct culture and identity of Kashmir.

Spokesman stated that it was highly unfortunate that authorities instead of realizing the sensitivities involved with the issue and respecting the emotions of Kashmiri populace were facilitating the so called Yatra to please the communal elements and thus deliberately pushing the state towards uncertainty and communal hatred. He stated that any harm to ecology of the area would prove to be disastrous for the flora and fauna of Kashmir.

How the state government permitted Kousar Nag Yatra? Asks Nayeem Khan

KL Report

SRINAGAR

Senior separatist leader Nayeem Ahmad Khan Friday asked the state government to explain as to how it permitted the “so called” Kousar Nag and Macchil Hindu Yatras.

“How dare it (the state government) allow the so called Kousar Nag and Macchail Hindu Yatras knowing the fact these are against the fragile environment and a threat to the identity of the majority people of Kashmir,” Khan asked in a statement.

“The state government is hand in glove with the communal forces of New Delhi and all these elements from Srinagar to New Delhi are hell bent to destroy the peaceful atmosphere of the Valley,” khan alleged. He added “Kashmiri Muslims are determined to safeguard their religious identity and the local ecology so any attempt against it will be resisted tooth and nail.”

He said, “Kashmiri Muslims know how to respect and give regard to other religions but at the same time they will not allow any body to destroy their particular identity,” Nayeem Khan said.

He said that the pro-India politicians will be called as “traitors” by the future historians because they according to him are acting against their nation and Millat. “These anti-Muslim people even restricted pro-freedom leaders and activists during Ramazan and did not allow them to offer the Jumma-tul-Vida and Eid prayers,” said.

He appealed the Hindu Scholars to follow the footprints of Swami Agnivesh and come out openly against the so called Yatras like Kousar Nag and Macchail, which are only aimed at “strengthening the Indian occupation on Kashmir” using religion.

Khan termed the men in uniform as “the tools” used by the state rulers to suppress the local Muslims and strongly condemned the police action against the peaceful protesters of Kulgam and its adjacent areas.
