Two Earthquakes Shake Doda

SRINAGAR: In the early hours of July 10, 2023, a pair of earthquakes struck the region of Jammu and Kashmir, causing panic among residents.

The first earthquake, measuring a magnitude of 4.9, occurred at 5:38 am local time, followed closely by a second earthquake measuring 3.6 in magnitude at 5:43 am.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the epicenter of both earthquakes was located near Doda, with the coordinates 33.15°N and 75.68°E for the first earthquake, and 33.15°N and 75.7°E for the second earthquake. The depth of the first earthquake was estimated to be 10 kilometers, while the second earthquake occurred at a depth of 8 kilometers.

The impact of the earthquakes was felt across several nearby cities and towns. The first earthquake, located 12 kilometers east of Doda, had its effects spread to areas such as Udhampur, located 57 kilometers east-northeast, Jammu, situated 89 kilometers east-northeast, and Srinagar, approximately 132 kilometers southeast of the epicenter.

Similarly, the second earthquake, centered 14 kilometers east of Doda, affected nearby regions including Udhampur, located 58 kilometers east-northeast, Jammu, positioned 90 kilometers east-northeast, and Srinagar, about 133 kilometers southeast of the epicentre.

No immediate reports of casualties or significant damage have been receive.
