Kashmiri Student Injured In AMU, Attacker Arrested

SRINAGAR: A Kashmir student at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was seriously injured when he was attacked by a fellow student while playing cricket. The injured boy has been admitted to the hospital and the attacker has been arrested, reports reaching from AMU said.

Details revealed that Sajid Hussain had a minor altercation during a friendly cricket match with Shobhit Singh, a resident of UP. They both study at the College of Engineering and Technology. They are in their second year and both live in the Nadeem Tareen Hall hostel.

It was during the friendly match on Wednesday late afternoon that the two had an altercation. Sing is alleged to have used the cricket bat and hit him twice.

The seriously injured student was quickly rushed to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in an unconscious state. He continues to be in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

As the news of the incident spread on the campus, a large group of students gathered at the Shatabdi Gate. They were demanding rustication of Singh immediately. It was only after that Singh was arrested by the police to present escalations the tension. Police have registered a case under FIR 602 /2022, under Section 504 and 307 of IPC for attempt to murder.

As Hussain is being treated there was no class work in the Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology. Police and AMU administration have taken measures to prevent any escalation of the tension. The University officials have told the students that Singh has been suspended.
