SRINAGAR: Doda’s Thathri town is limping back to normalcy after an uphill cloudburst sent tons of mud and huge floods into the highway town. The incident was reported during the intervening night of July 8 and 9.
Residents said the town started getting massive floods at around 3:30 am when a cloudburst hit the upper reaches of Gunti forests. It triggered massive soil erosion with floods into the town. However, it followed the spaces which did not damage human life.
However, the flood and mud blocked the Batote Kishtwar highway for some time till the authorities brought in earth removers and restored the normalcy on the vital road. A number of vehicles which were parked on the highway were literally pulled out of the mud after the earth-removers cleaned the road off the massive mud deposits. The mud deposits were above three feet.
Residents said the quantum of the flood was moderate and it followed a natural route to get into the main river. Had it even a few meters of diversion, the town would have suffered extensively.
