SRINAGAR: CPI(M) leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami has said that despite the clear directions from the High Court to return the mortal remains of Amir Latief Magray, the third civilian killed in a controversial Hyderpora encounter last year, to his family, the body of the victim is yet to be exhumed.
CPI(M) leader Tarigmai said that it is very unfortunate that the administration has not carried out the exhumation even after a week-long hiatus.
“Right to decent burial is a fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution and every dead body deserves a decent burial,” he said.
“It is a constitutional infraction to deny the return of mortal remains to one’s legal heirs for performing the last rites,” he added.
“It also sans reason as to how a dead body could pose a security threat,” said Tarigami.
CPI(M) has always opposed the administrative move of not returning the bodies of the slain to their families.
CPI(M) enjoins the administration to exhume the body of Magray without any further delay and return it to his family for re-burial.
