Western Disturbance Likely To Affect JK From Dec 5-7

SRINAGAR: The night temperature was below freezing point level in many places across Kashmir as the Meteorological (MeT) department forecast wet spell from December 5.

According to an official at the MeT department, a western disturbance is most likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir from December 5 to December 7, 2021.

“Under the influence of this system widespread light to moderate snowfall/rain in plains of Jammu is expected during the above period,” an official said.

“Some places on higher reaches (above 2000m) may receive heavy snow( 1-2feet) whereas plains are likely to receive 2-3inches of snow,” he said.

“As of today, there’s no forecast of heavy snow/rain in plains,” he added.

This may lead to temporary disruption of traffic overpasses like Zojila, Sinthan Top, Razdan Top, Mugal Road,” said an official.

Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K recorded minus 1.1 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature while Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded minus 3.4 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

The night temperature in Gulmarg – the famous tourist resort settled at a low of minus 2.2 degrees while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 2.0 degrees Celsius.

Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 0.5 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius last night.

Jammu city recorded 9.9, Katra 9.2, Batote 3.9, Banihal 0.4 and Bhaderwah 2.0 as the minimum temperatures.
