SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police have ordered a high level inquiry to find out possible security lapse and dereliction of duty by police constable at Police Complex Tral in South Kashmir that first led to weapon snatching and then killing of a Hizbul Mujahideen militant.
“Yes, a high level inquiry has been ordered to find out how Muhammad Amin Malik, the Hizb Militant managed to snatch weapon and open fire at police personnel. The main responsible person (police constable) has sustained injuries and is being treated at a Srinagar hospital,” a senior police officer told. “The injured policeman will also be quizzed as to how Malik snatched riffle from him.”
He said that the inquiry team will be headed by a senior officer that would look into how the arrested militant Amin Malik managed to snatch the weapon of police constable Amjad Khan.
The inquiry, the officer said, will be completed within 15 days and guilty will be brought to book. Pertinently, police had arrested Muhammad Amin Malik of Nagbal, Machhama, Tral on May 30 along with explosives and other IED material besides some ammunition.
However, yesterday, he managed to snatch the weapon of police constable Amjad Khan at Police complex Tral and fired at Khan and other police personnel. Malik engaged policemen throughout the night and later got killed early month Thursday.
Police said he was active militant of Hizb and his brother was AGH militant, who was killed in 2019. Police also said that Malik refused frequent surrender offers made by his mother and executive magistrate during the night. (KNO)
