Stop ‘barbarity’ of forces or face consequences: Geelani warns authorities

Srinagar: Chairman of his faction of Hurriyat, Syed Ali Geelani denounced use of brute forces on students and teaching staff in educational institutions, saying that “we won’t tolerate mistreatment and will never allow any one to play with their future”

In a statement on Sunday, Geelani while condemning police raids and thrashing of students of polytechnic, Pulwama and Shopian colleges said that state authorities are pushing our youth to wall and compelling them to resent. “It is ploy to ruin their future,” said Geelani and as such are provoked by forces & authorities.

Referring to the recent threat statements from Jan Sangh leaders, Geelani said, that state affairs are virtually run by Indian forces and Delhi has declared war on people. Blaming authorities for vandalism against students and while referring to Polytechnic college incident, Geelani said that authorities are hatching conspiracy against students, they are being detained and are repeating Pulwama like events in other educational institutions.

“We are keeping close vigil over the situation,” said Geelani and “if the barbarity of forces is not stopped forthwith, authorities shall have to face consequences.”

Geelani while commenting over the recent statements of Amit Shah and Ram Madhav, said that authorities in Delhi are turning their deaf ear to hard realities and following their arrogant thinking and repressive measures. “Stubborn attitude and harsh measures neither did any good in past nor it will prove of any help in future too,” he said.

Lamenting at authorities, Geelani said that instead of submitting to brute force, it infused new sprits among people in state.

Taking dig at Jan Sang ideology, Geelani categorically said that there is no space for their obsessive views in Kashmir and they can never change historical realities about state.

“As a nation, we pledge that we will never budge, and will pursue our struggle till we achieve our destination,” he said.

Referring to geopolitical changes around world, Geelani said that in civilized societies, there is no space for these idiotic ideologies. Change is natural & a continuing process and erstwhile Britain and USSR stands witness to this fact that corrosion and suppression are short lived, said Geelani. India is following its arrogant policies and it will meet same fate, he added.

Geelani warned Indian authorities and asked to shun its repressive and egoistic approach or face consequences as law of nature is there to check roguish doings.

Pakistan wants result-oriented talks with India on Kashmir issue: FO spokesperson

Srinagar: Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakria  Sunday has said Pakistan wanted a meaningful, sustainable and result oriented dialogue with India on Kashmir issue, he said while talking to PTV.

The spokesperson accused India of lack of seriousness and said “Pakistan had initiated a composite dialogue with India in the past but the latter had not shown seriousness to resolve the issue.”

As reported by The Nation, the spokesperson said “Pakistani and international media had made headlines on Kashmir issue to highlight Indian atrocities and barbarism on innocent Kashmiris.”

“We cannot initiate talks with India in such worsened circumstances in the valley when one million Indian troops and paramilitary forces are present in Kashmir,” he said.

The spokesperson said “India was trying to convert Kashmiris into minority and change demography of Kashmir by settling India retired officials in the Occupied valley.”

He said Kashmiris were determined for their right of freedom, right to self determination as per resolutions of United Nations (UN).

Indian government had failed to protect basic rights of minorities in India, he said.

BJP cannot put a rider on Agenda of Alliance: Altaf Bukhari

Srinagar: Senior PDP leader and Minister for Education Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Sunday said that dialogue cannot have a rider or any pre-conditions in a democratic set-up.

Responding to a question asked on the sidelines of his visit to his constituency, Bukhari said dialogue at all levels needs to be inclusive and cannot be conditional.

“Dissent is the essence of democracy. Exclusion of the voices of dissent is against the spirit of a democratic polity. A lack of inclusive dialogue can only add to frustration and over time, generate rejection and more rebellion,” Bukhari cautioned.

The statement from Bukhari is significant as from last few days BJP leaders at various levels have been rejecting talks with separatists.

Bukhari observed that it was former Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee who talked about dialogue under the ambit of humanity and now talking about dialogue with a condition, unfortunately, reveals a flip-flop policy on the resolution of Kashmir problem.

He said Kashmir is essentially a political problem that needs a political solution through dialogue and discussions. “It can’t have an economic solution. I wonder why our Prime Minister, with a historic public mandate, is shying away from his responsibility by not carrying forward the legacy of Mr. Vajpayee and a former Prime Minister who said ‘sky is the limit’ on the issue of Kashmir,” Bukhari said.

He urged the Prime Minister to initiate an unconditional dialogue with all stakeholders for a lasting solution to Kashmir problem. “What separates democracy from other political philosophies is the principle and practice of solving differences through inclusive and meaningful dialogue,” Bukhari remarked.

“The national leadership should hold talks with all stakeholders irrespective of their political beliefs and without any preconditions and fulfil its commitment given in black and white in the shape of agenda of alliance.”

He said that despite wars and violence in different forms, Kashmir has remained lingering on since last so many decades and sufferings of people have increased manifold.

“Economic packages have never replaced the political necessities of engagement in Kashmir. We have been witnessing death and destruction that has virtually taken over everything.”

Bukhari said that those who are at the helm of affairs must draw lessons and read the writing on the wall. “They should also understand the serious implications of the situation that is eating into vitals of Kashmir,” Bukhari averred.
He said that PDP forged an alliance with BJP just to resume the halfway left reconciliatory process and initiate talks aimed at resolving the decades’ old political uncertainty.

“PDP believes that inclusive dialogue is the only way out. Unfortunately instead of taking such an initiative, we have been made to believe that central government has a lackadaisical policy with regard to Kashmir. This perception needs to be changed on the ground,” he remarked.

Bukhari said that BJP as a coalition partner of PDP has agreed in principle for the agenda of alliance calling for engagement with all stakeholders and not a section of people. “I think good sense will prevail very soon and the central government will take immediate measures which can balm the wounds and address the injured psyche of Kashmiris.”

BJP’s stand makes it clear that “Agenda of Alliance” exists nowhere: Hakim Yasin

Srinagar: A day after BJP National President Amit Shah said New Delhi was in no mood to have any sort of dialogue with separatists in Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Front president and MLA Khansahib Hakim Mohammad Yasin Sunday said the statement of BJP leaders make it clear now that so-called “Agenda of Alliance” exists nowhere.

“In the last more than two years, Kashmiris were being fed with the lollipop of ‘Agenda of Alliance’. However, Amit Shah, Dr Jitendera Singh and other BJP leaders made it clear that there is no ‘AoA. It is good that they made it clear that ‘AoA is nothing more than a piece of paper,” Hakim Yasin said in a statement.

“People of Kashmiri can’t be kept in dark further as they must have realised now how they were being befooled in the name of ‘AoA’ in the last more than two years. Now it is clear that for what this so-called ‘AoA’ was. It was an agenda for running the government only,” he said.

Describing the prevailing situation in Kashmir as extremely dangerous, Yasin said there can be no solution unless all the stakeholders are involved in the dialogue process. “Students are on roads and you can’t turn blind eye towards the grave situation in the Valley. Even female students are on roads which is unprecedented. Situation won’t improve unless dialogue process with all stakeholders isn’t initiated. There is no alternative to dialogue,” he said.

Yasin said the stand of government of India to not hold any talks with separatist is extremely dangerous for future of Kashmir. “It is a golden opportunity for New Delhi to hold a meaningful and time-bound dialogue with Pakistan and all stakeholders of Kashmir to solve the vexed Kashmir problem. The dialogue process between the two estranged neighbours can remain uninterrupted only if it is not held hostage to domestic politics,” he said.

Yasin urged the Prime Minister Modi to work like a statesman and take steps for the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

“Modiji is a strong PM and has strong mandate. He only can solve Kashmir issue, if he is willing. History is witness that no issue in the world has been settled through wars. War only brings destruction. India and Pakistan have fought three wars and after every war, they had to come on the negotiation table. Confrontation and hostility between New Delhi and Islamabad have not yielded favourable results for either country in the past. I appeal leadership of both the countries to shun the violence and come on negotiation table for the settlement of vexed Kashmir issue,” the MLA Khansahib added.

SC is not a forum to seek the resolution of Kashmir issue: DeM

Srinagar: Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) in a statement has said “the Supreme Court of India is too small a forum to seek the resolution of Kashmir issue.”

Spokesperson of DeM said Jammu and Kashmir issue is an internationally recognised dispute and only forums like the United Nation Organistaion, which has passed numerous resolutions on the issue, are the genuine forums where the resolution of this longstanding issue can be sought out.

“ The representation made by Indian advocate general, Mukul Rohatgi, on behalf of the Indian government at the SC of India on Friday exposes his ignorance about the issue of Jammu and Kashmir,” Nasreen, Dem general secretary said in a statement.

She said that after reading his (Rohatgi’s) statement one feels that only an immature person with no knowledge about this issue can talk such “nonsense.” He doesn’t know the Kashmir issue or its historical perspective,” she added.

“ This issue isn’t about stone throwing or pellets, Kashmir issue infact is an internationally acknowledged dispute since 1947 where people demand complete freedom and are struggling for their right to determine their future,” she added.

She said that Indian government’s proposal that they would talk to only “registered parties” is yet another joke and exposes India’s lack of interest in resolving this issue. “ This is known fact that the so-called ‘registered’ parties are Indian stooges who want nothing but to rule JK. No talks with separatists, affirms Ram Madhav

Tasavur Mushtaq

Srinagar

Few days after he tweeted “everything is fair in love and war”, BJP’s point man in Kashmir and national general secretary Ram Madhav Saturday negated claims of holding talks with separatists in Kashmir.

The development is seen as significant as chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has recently in her twin meetings with party’s core group and legislators emphasized to have a dialogue and insisted on “humane approach” to be used while dealing with protesters.

Madhav who after Mehbooba met Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted to convey that “there is no rift between PDP & BJP and it was just a communication gap” said Saturday Centre wouldn’t hold talks with separatists whom he accuses of using “Valley as guinea pigs in their reprehensible politics of violence and separatism.”

“The separatists have only one motto: One dead body a day, so that they can play sentimental politics over the dead bodies,” he posted on social media and added “the security forces and the government on the other hand try their best to ensure that the ill-intentions of the separatists don’t succeed”

Commending the effort of government and government forces, Madhav who has co-authored Agenda of Alliance they are “executing a difficult job of mainlining peace in the Valley with a commendable effort.”

Regarding the use of controversial pellet guns which left Kashmir blinded, maimed and injured in 2016 protests, Madhab said “the armed forces had very few pellet guns and were used in rare situations only.”

“Even where used they are deemed less lethal than normal guns and bullets. Even there the forces are trained to maintain maximum restraint and use other methods to control violence,” he said.

In another significant development governor N N Vohra was summoned on Saturday to New Delhi to “discuss Kashmir situation”. Vohra, reports was scheduled to meet Home Minister Raj Nath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, and later PM Modi. Opposition in state demand governor’s rule to be imposed.

Meanwhile BJP’s national president Amit Shah is on two days visit to valley where he has held deliberations with various state leaders of party.

The PPD insider late Saturday told Kashmir Life “there is uneasy calm as BJP is not showing any concern to give room for actually getting back on track.”

Earlier another right wing leader Pravin Togadia has urged BJP government is Delhi to “carpet bomb” Kashmir to stop militancy.

Stone-crushers deplete Ferozepur Nallah; locals stage protest

Tangmarg: People are up in arms against the illegal operation of stone-crushers along Ferozpur Nallah in Tangmarg area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

File image of crusher in Kashmir

Hundreds of people including women staged a massive protest along the nallah at Shari village and demanded immediate removal of these stone-crushers which according to them have not only the source of noise pollution but have also depleted the fresh waters of Ferozpur nallah.

The protesters alleged that the owners of these stone-crushers have not obtained ‘Non-Objection Certificate’ (NOC) from any government department. “As per norms the owners of these stone-crushers have to get NOC from Fisheries, Irrigation and Forest Departments. Even they have not obtained the permission from State Pollution Control Board. They are running illegally,” the protesters told local news agency.

“Last Year all these stone-crushers were seized by SDM Tangmarg on the directions of the High Court but ironically they have started their operations again,” said protesters adding that both forest land and water body is at risk while authorities are in slumber, taking no measures to stop the illegal operations of these stone-crushers.

The protesters threatened to go for fast unto-death in case government doesn’t remove these stone-crushers. “We will go to any extent to protect our water body, forest land and agricultural lands. “Forest land and the nallah fall within a 25-metre range of the area for the stone crushers to operate, and some residential buildings fall within 125 metres. The dust from the stone crushers proves detrimental to the land; their proximity to the houses have being affecting the health of the villagers,” they said and sought intervention of the district administration.(CNS)

India has waged war against Kashmiris on institutional level: Nayeem

Srinagar: Stating that New Delhi and it’s local collaborators have waged a war against the youth of Kashmir, senior Hurriyat leader and Jammu Kashmir National Front chairman, Nayeem Ahmad Khan Saturday urged upon his party workers to exhibit extra persistence in the present times when the whole state apparatus is working with a mindset of coercion and tyranny.

Khan according to statement  was addressing senior party office bearers at the party headquarter in Srinagar.

He said that all the space for freedom of expression has been choked and the state has come out with its full forces against the youth. “On the behest of New Delhi, an open war against the youth has been started in nook and corner to suppress the ongoing resistance movement. The stooges of New Delhi are working on a single agenda of suppressing the voices of common people so it is the utmost responsibility of the political activists to remain more vigilant and exhibit extraordinary commitment,” he said.

Expressing concern over brazenly banning all kinds of student activism, Khan said that students feel suffocated in the present atmosphere. “The youth have opted for raising their voice only because they are not being allowed to put their views across and the situation has compelled them to take to streets.”

He said that leadership is not being allowed to reach to people and propaganda against the political movement of Kashmiris has been started on institutional level from Srinagar to New Delhi. “In this situation youth are being pushed to wall so they have started to react.”

Khan said that when political space is choked and voices are made silent forcefully a chaos takes the central stage. He said that increased state repression pushes the people to resist more forcefully and the current outrage of students across the disputed region is an example of that. “Our youth have become politically enough mature to understand the structure of the Indian occupation,” Khan said adding “now when they have started to hit the streets India and its collaborators feel uneasy.”

Stressing upon New Delhi to shun the path of obduracy over Kashmir dispute, Khan said that the killing and arrest spree is the result of unethical and undemocratic approach of India towards the accepted Kashmir dispute.

Centre’s snub to Mehbooba unfortunate: Mir

Srinagar: Reacting to the centre governments  decision of not holding talks with separatists, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President G.A. Mir has described the decision as worst humiliation to Chief Minister Mehboob Mufti, saying that the alliance between PDP-BJP has come to an end in true sense, but the lust for power doesn’t allow them to break this unholy alliance.

Snubbing Chief Minister for misleading people on AoA, as according to her, talks with all stake holders including Hurriyat was on the top of the agenda between them (PDP BJP), Mir in a statement Saturday “ridiculed the Chief Minister for lying to people on this count also, indicating that both the partners were never on the same page, people have realized that the Agenda of Alliance (AOA) was only a power sharing formula between PDP & BJP,” he said.

Expressing disappointment over the decision, Mir said there is a need to adopt a holistic approach involving all stake holders in order to create a congenial atmosphere to restore normalcy in the valley.

Mir said Narendra Modi Govt has added responsibility of taking peace initiatives to bring the valley out of the current fiasco, but the rigid approach adopted will certainly backfire, which will neither be in the interest of centre nor the state.

He added we cannot remain as mute spectators to the hostile situation, as it is ultimately the common people, who are suffering badly, in every respect and they will continue to suffer unless the problem is addressed, as was promised to people by PDP.

Condemning the provocative statements coming from BJP and RSS leaders, from time to time, Mir said that such type of provocation is adding fuel to fire, as a result the situation in the valley is extremely volatile, he also urged upon the Civil Society of the Country to condemn such type of provocation.

He said Congress Party has always supported talks with all Stakeholders including Hurriyat in order to bring the state out of turmoil and it will continue to support the peace process and initiatives to be undertaken to restore normalcy in the State, especially in valley.

Taking on news channels for defaming Kashmir and spewing venom against the people of Kashmir,  Dr Abdullah according said that Nexalite attack on CRPF in Sukma didn’t catch the attention of the Indian news channels; instead it gave hype to Kupwara attack to spread hatred against the people of Kashmir. Comrade Tarigami says talks with dissenting voices is democracy’s essence

SRINAGAR: While commenting over Delhi’s assertions in Supreme Court that it can’t hold dialogue with separatists in Kashmir, senior CPI (M) leader and MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Saturday said holding talks with voices of dissent is the essence of democracy.

“The best option recognised by the civilized world to settle disputes is the process of dialogue as violence only leads to death and destruction. Dialogue is the internationally recognised process to sort out the issues/differences. Even those countries which have been on war path with each other, finally settle the issues only when they sit on negotiations table,” Tarigami said in a statement.

Expressing dismay and surprise over the stand taken by Attorney General of India in the apex court, the CPI (M) leader said, “Delhi’s stand that it will talk only when there is peace is similar to a doctor asking a patient to get well first and then he will treat him. Only answer to end the violence is dialogue. Making excuses and running away from dialogue process should not be the trait of a state. Hearing the voices of dissent and holding dialogue with them is the only option.”

“The necessity of the dialogue arises when issues despite adopting other means remain unresolved. Even family, community, regional and other disputes at the end are resolved though dialogue only. To make it conditional is virtually running away from the intent to resolve the issues. Despite wars and violence in different forms, the issue has remained lingering on since last 70-years and sufferings of people have increased manifold. Death and destruction has virtually taken over and the saner voices have become the causality. How to get rid of this unfortunate situation is a question which needs immediate response from those who are in power. CPI (M) has been consistently advocating initiating of a credible process of dialogue with
