Kashmir shuts against Chadoora killings; restrictions in parts of old city

Srinagar:  A complete shutdown is being observed across Kashmir against the killings of civilians in Chadoora area of central Kashmir on Wednesday. The shutdown has affected the normal life.

The call for shutdown was given by Joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.

Three persons, Zahid Rashid, Aamir Fayaz and Ishfaq Ahmad were killed by forces for being part of hundreds of protesters who tried to help a militant escape while he was fighting forces.

The militant, Touseef Ahmad Wagay, was also killed by the forces after a daylong gunfight in Zuin area of Budgam district. At least 35 protesters were also injured in force’s actions.

All shops, business establishments and educational institutions are closed in Srinagar and adjoining areas while as public transport is off the roads.

Reports of complete shutdown have also reached from other district headquarters of the valley.

Meanwhile, authorities have imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar city to stop protests.
