Euro 2000 Help To Shafat’s Family Announced

International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) Safety Fund has sanctioned an assistance of 2000 Euro for the family of new photographer Shafat Sidiq, a communication from S N Sinha, the president of Indian Journalists Union’s (IJU) said.


IJU and other journalistic bodies were seeking help for the aged parents and the widow of Shafat Sidiq ever since he was killed by floods while discharging his duties. In a communication Sinha said the amount is being transferred to the bank account of the family in Srinagar at the earliest.


Two thousand Euros are around Rs 1.56 lakh.


Tragically however, the management of the Jagran newspaper for whom Shafat was working has not done anything so far. Any help from state government is also awaited. IUJ had already written to Jagran newspaper for paying the compensation to the family which comprises of two aged parents, a non-working widow and a minor kid.
