Uproar in JK Assembly over Booked Youth

Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Mubarak Gul had to adjourn the House as the opposition PDP members sought a discussion on almost 6000 youth booked under different cases since 2010.


The party had moved an adjournment motion in the house yesterday.


As the proceedings started, the PDP members stood up and demanded the adjournment of the normal business and discussion on the motion.


However, speaker wanted to go with the normal business of the question hour. He assured the protesting PDP members who stormed into the well that discussion will be allowed after the question hour.


Adamant on their demand, the PDP members started shouting slogans.


In the meantime communist leader Yousuf Tarigami and his ally Hakim Yasin exchanged arguments with PDP members. The law minister, Mir Saifullah raised some points about the motion calling it as “ambiguous” which provoked the protesting PDP members.


As the uproar was on, the deputy speaker, Sartaj Madni launched a scathing attack on Speaker’s conduct of assembly proceedings. He said, “You are giving charge of the house to the members, which is against the honour and dignity of the chair.”


Madni, supported the motion of his party members however, the speaker rejected it and adjourned the house.


The motion was later accepted and discussion was started.


Earlier, NPP members also came into the well oh House protesting against the alleged unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops towards Indian positions. The members later walked out raising anti-Pakistan slogans.
