Weather Alert: Srinagar Freezes in Coldest Night of the Year

SRINAGAR: The harsh cold conditions persist in Jammu and Kashmir, with Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K, experiencing the coldest night of the season on Tuesday.

According to a meteorological department official, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, compared to minus 0.8 degrees Celsius the previous night. This marks a significant drop of minus 2.0 degrees Celsius below the normal temperature for this time of the year in the capital city.

The city witnessed widespread fog, significantly impacting visibility and causing disruptions for morning commuters.

Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, reported a minimum temperature of 0.8 degrees Celsius, down from minus 0.4 degrees Celsius on the previous night, registering a deviation of minus 2.0 degrees Celsius below normal.

Pahalgam, the renowned resort in south Kashmir, documented a low of minus 2.9 degrees Celsius, nearly 1 degree Celsius below the usual temperature.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 0.2 degrees Celsius, showing a departure of around minus 2 degrees Celsius from the normal temperature for the location, as per the official.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir experienced a low of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius, which was 1 degree Celsius below normal, as reported by the official.

Gulmarg, the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, registered a minimum of minus 0.6 degrees Celsius, slightly above 1 degree Celsius from the usual temperature, according to the official.

Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, noted a minimum of 11.2 degrees Celsius, indicating a departure of minus 1 degree Celsius from the normal temperature for the region.

The weatherman predicts generally dry weather with “occasional cloudiness on November 25” until November 26. Overall, no significant weather activity is anticipated until November 26, with the expectation of “shallow fog with mist during morning and evening hours.” (GNS)”
