75 Years After Decolonising India, UK Has A Hindu Prime Minister

SRINAGAR: Coinciding 75 years of the end of British colonialism in India, Rishi Sunik is entering as the first Indian-origin Hindu Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. At 42, he will be the youngest Prime Minister that the UK had in 210 years.

Rishi Sunak, UK’s youngest and the first Hindu Prime Minister

British-born Sunak is the son-in-law of Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy.

Rishi will be UK’s third prime minister in 2022. He will replace Liz Truss who gave up the job after remaining in a chair for 40 days. The UK is facing a serious slowdown and a crippling economic crisis. Liz gave up after her debt-funded tax cuts crashed the pound. After defeating Rishi on September 5, Liz is now supporting his takeover.

For the last 24 hours, social media is literally on fire for Rishi to make history. People have uploaded thousands of messages by Colonial Indian masters who abused India and its people. They especially mentioned Winston Churchill.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Rishi and hoped they work together.

Rishi will create history later today when he would enter Downing Street No 10 along with his wife Akshata Murty and their two daughters, Krishna and Anushka. Born in 1980, in Southampton, Rishi was born to Indian parents – general practitioner father Yashvir and pharmacist mother Usha – who had moved to the UK from east Africa. He pursued a business degree at Stanford University, where he met Akshata. He was the finance minister of the UK, till recently.

Rishi’s wife runs, Akshata Designs, a fashion label, and is also the director of a venture capital firm founded by her father in 2010. Though she has had a modest upbringing, her share of 0.91 per cent in Infosys – worth around 700 million dollars – makes her richer than the late Queen Elizabeth II, whose personal wealth was estimated at about 460 million dollars in 2021.

As Rishi is taking over the leadership of one of the powerful nations, currently facing recession, the British media is divided over the outcome. “Sunak is likely to be the fifth and final Tory prime minister of this era whose career will end in humiliating failure, in his case an electoral rout at the hands of the Labour party will probably be his final chapter,” an opinion in one of UK’s major newspapers reads.
