SRINAGAR: Former minister and senior politician Ghulam Qadir Mir passed away on Tuesday. A resident of Harie Kupwara, Mir was 92.
He was elected to Legislative Assembly in 1977 on National Conference ticket and became transport Minister. He was a close associate of the founder of the National Conference and former Chief Minister Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah. He deserted National Conference in 2002.
Apart from his wife, Mir is survived by his five sons and three daughters.
According to family the funeral prayers of Mir will be held at 5:30 PM at his ancestral village in Kupwara.
He fought the Assembly Elections unsuccessfully in 2002 lost to National Conference Mir Saifullah as an Independent candidate.
