KL Report

SRINAGAR

Authorities on Tuesday released Hurriyat (JK) leaders, Shabir Ahmad Shah and Nayeem Ahmad Khan after a detention of more than a month but immediately placed them under house arrest.

A Hurriyat (JK) spokesman told Kashmir Life that Shah and Khan were released from Rajbagh police station but as they reached their respective residences, they were put under house arrest and informed that they cannot move out.

Shah and Khan were first put under house arrest on April 16 in wake of the Lok Sabha elections and then shifted to Rajbah police station on April 26. “Since then both the leaders were in police station Rajbagh,” the spokesman said.

He added that their mobile phones were snatched in the said police station and authorities have not handed them over yet.

Pertinently, most of the separatist leaders who were campaigning for poll boycott were detained during the month of the April.

Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani and Hurriyat (JK) leader Mushtaq-ul-Islam are among those who still face detention. Geelani has been placed under house arrest since March 16 this year while as Mushtaq has been shifted to district jail Baramulla.
