As the life in Kashmir valley is out of gear due to the heavy snowfall, ruckus was witnessed in the Legislative Assembly over the post snow situation.
Opposition legislators sought immediate relief to the people affected by the snowfall. They wanted immediate restoration of the electricity, water and resumption of road communications.
There are more than 50 houses that have suffered severe damage in my area, MLA Pahalgam Altaf Kaloo, informed the house. He sought “affected people” by the government to those suffered home loss and wanted also that “road to Aru valley is resumed so that people have access to their basic necessities.”
Most of the members raised the issue of electricity cut-off in the valley.
“There is complete breakdown in the electricity grid in the Kulgam area and people are suffering badly,” Kulgam Legislator, M Y Tarigami said, “Don’t let people die like this.”
MLA Eidgah, Mubark Gul urged government to provide shelter to the people who are struck in Jammu due to the closure of Jammu-Srinagar highway.
Responding to the opposition uproar, parliamentary affairs minister, Abdul Rehman Veeri assured the members that the government agencies were on job and busy restoring the routine. He listed arteas where snow cutters are operational. He said certain areas may take a bit of more time like Kulgam on the electricity resumption issue.
“There has been more snow in the northern part of the valley and our men and machinery are on work,” he said, “till today evening all the major roads will be thrown open.”
Stating that electricity in the most of the valley has been restored, he admitted, “there is some problem in the Kulgam area and it can take some time but people are on job.”
The brief discussion followed a 2-minute silence of the house over the death of 10 soldiers in the avalanches triggered in the forward areas in northern Kashmir.
