Hurriyat Conference (g) chairperson, Syed Ali Geelani on Monday said that detainees are forcibly subjected to unlawful, undemocratic and unethical imprisonment and judicial institutions are being used as a tool to prolong their detention.
The octogenarian leader said that judiciary is supposed to provide workable justice to needy; however these institutions too are misused by state machinery. While referring to state administration, He said that virtually courts have been assigned the job to delay cases, thereby prolonging the already snail’s pace of judicial proceedings.
“This well-coordinated conspiracy of the bureaucracy has jeopardized & threatened the general psyche of both inmates as well as their families,” he said.
Spokesperson said that family members of these detainees during interaction with Syed Ali Geelani, disclosed the woeful account about detainees and said that though they have filed petitions challenging their detention, but instead of providing justice, courts just for the sake of formalities, put cases on hearings.
They said that after winter vacations the cases were in final stage, we were expecting their release, however without assigning any proper reason these cases were deferred & put for next hearing.
Geelani expressed concern and said that the delaying tactics adopted by administration and judiciary is painful, unjustified and unacceptable.
He said that people in state are facing worst type of “state-terrorism”, thousands are languishing in jails and are approaching these judicial institutions for justice. “It is very sad and what is alternative if they won’t get any justice & respite from these courts.”
He said that during court proceedings the detainees expect much and after court proceedings and as a routine they get bailed out, however any kind of delay tantamount to injustice. It has been accepted and accredited that justice delayed is justice denied, he added.
