Of 11 militant ‘cops’, two dead, other facing cases

The government on Saturday said that as many as 11 cops have deserted the police services and joined militancy since the year 2000. Of them two were killed in an encounter on October 15, 2015.

The slain cops, both SPOs actually, have been identified as Mohammad Mangoo, a resident of Bayan and Reyaz Ahmad, a resident of Dedni in Marmat. They were facing  a case registered in the police station Doda.

Other nine have cases against them challenged before the competent courts.

Abdul Rashid Shigan has 20 cases registered against him. Most of the cases are that of murder and are registered in various police stations in the Srinagar city.

Nasir Ahmad Pandith has a case registered against him in police station Sher Ghari. He belonged to security’s 11th battalion.

Khursheed Ahmad Khan, belonged to CID. He is facing a case in police station Nigeen.

In the Nigheen police station, there is also a case registered against erstwhile cop Ali Mohammad Najar.

Ghulam Mohiuddin Ganai of Malwan Kulgam has a case investigated against him in the police station Kulgam, the details revealed by the government said.

Constable Mohmmad Ramzan has a case registered against him in police station Sopore.

Hilal Gul of Yasipora has also a case registered against him in police station Sopore. In the same police station, there is another case against another erstwhile police man Mudasir Ahmad Shah, a resident of Handwara.

Mohammad Shafi Dar of Nawpora Sopore has a case registered against him in Sopore police station.
