In Jammu and Kashmir 20 percent of the total government schools numbered as 4850 are lacking their own building and are running in the structures on rent.

This was stated in Legislative Council on Friday in a written reply by Education minister, Naeem Akhtar.

“The state has 23684 schools out of which 4850 schools are functioning in the rented buildings,” Akhtar informed the house.

These schools include 1286 in Kashmir valley, 243 in Jammu province, and 3321 schools under, SSA/RMSA, the government documents revealed.

“The government buildings are constructed for these rented schools in a phased manner under centrally sponsored schemes such as SSA/RMSA and under State Capex Budget subject to the availability of land,” the documents mention.
