Jammu and Kashmir police are mulling to “recreate their image” at least in Kashmir peripheries.
On Tuesday, in an Awami Mulaqat in South Kashmir’s Shopian, cops told the people that to clear the “misconceptions regarding J&K Police”, “tours to Police Stations” for young boys and girls will be held from next week.
A coordination meeting by J&K Police district Shopian with village heads, Numberdars, village development committee members, principals of schools, police representatives, prominent persons, ex-servicemen, ladies and the youth of Shopian was held at Circuit House Shopian along higher reaches of Pir Panjal range.
Speaking in the meeting, SSP Shopian, Shalindra Mishra said, “from next week we are starting ‘Police Station Tours’ for young boys and girls.”
The SSP said that the tours aimed at clearing “misconceptions regarding police and police stations”. “It is a step towards betterment of society,” he told the gathering, “by such tours, we want to erase the misconceptions about police from the minds of youth.”
Asserting that police were to help the civilian population and their role differed with army, the SSP said, “we are a civil force but youths are scared when they see a cop of a police van.”
“Our job is to help people,” he said, “the tours to police stations will help in giving the actual image of police force.”
The official said that such coordination meeting aim to develop “synergy, understanding and better coordination between the civil administration functionaries and the Police”.
“Our focus is on harmonious functioning of police and the local populace,” the official said.
The police-public meeting discussed numerous issues concerning development, enhancing education, women empowerment and economic upliftment.
The coordination meeting brought to fore the existing local issues amongst the populace and efforts of the Police in ensuring the peace and prosperity in the region.
The SSP assured the local populace that women cell of Shopian police will be made functional within a week in every police station.
