The objective of the trip was to study operational aspects of Cross LoC trade, its nature, challenges it faces and scope for its improvement and expansion, a university statement said.

“The trip was a good learning experience for students and faculty as it allowed them to have on the spot observation of loaded trucks crossing from both sides of the LoC and share the views of the business community engaged with the trade from  this side of the LoC. Some of them threw light on the nature of commodities traded from both sides and the difficulties they face on account of the absence of banking facility,” the statement read.

They also spoke about the positives of this trade in terms of building trust among the business community from two otherwise divided parts of Jammu and Kashmir, need for expanding its commodity coverage and providing for more facilities in terms of Banking and Cross LoC communication. “The faculty discussed with students the conceptual significance of cross border trade as an important CBM and talked about its relevance in terms of reconnecting the divided parts of Kashmir through Jhelum Valley Road,” the statement added.
