PDP legislators – Mohammad Khalil Band, Zahoor Ahmad Mir and Abdul Rahim Rather – in a joint statement castigated the Sangh Parivar for their irresponsible statements and showed their dismay in the step motherly approach shown by the Center towards the people of this state.

In a statement issued to KNS, the three legislators of PDP said that the threatening given by the VHP and the same latter endorsed by one of the BJP legislators, is quite disturbing and is totally unacceptable. Such utterances, they said, will only create an atmosphere of communalism and hatred among the people and will vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of the state. They advised these leaders to shun from such irresponsible approach and instead of following the path of hatred, they should learn to live in harmony and brotherhood in the mixed culture atmosphere.

“Peoples Democratic Party, during the formation of this government, did with a broader vision and a clear heart, accepted its partnership with the BJP with a reason to bridge the gap between the different regions and the communities of this state. Our leadership seriously wanted to have an era of development for this flood devastated state in which the flood victim people deserved the first attention. Although the expectations were that this coalition dispensation will get boons to the state but astonishingly even after a gap of more than a year’s time, the BJP lead government in the centre has failed to feel and acknowledge the pain of the people of this state, yes it was mostly to the people of the Valley, the Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal Region, which still continue to reel under an unabated agony. Peoples Democratic Party has ideologically always been for equal development of all the regions of the state irrespective of caste, creed and colour,” the statement said.

“This party has at many occasions proved and stood to the test for not being power hungry and wants that the people of the state achieve a desirable level of political, social and economic development. Our party will not allow any such kind of conspiracy to succeed that envisages creating a wedge among the different sections of people of this state,” they said.

They said, “what is “Halaal” or “Haraam” for a Muslim is clearly mentioned in the Holy Qur’an and this is purely a religious matter and no authority, whatsoever, has any jurisdiction to intervene.” “What to eat or what not needs not to be dictated by any one and the Hon’ble Supreme Court has also upheld the same view in its recent judgement which should be a torch bearer for the whole judiciary of this country. Any such type of threatening by any party or group is totally unacceptable and uncalled for and nobody has any right to interfere or intervene in the religious matters of others,” they said.
