Kashmir valley celebrated Eid-al-Azha on Friday, September 25. However, no reportage emerged from valley since all the internet services stand banned after authorities feared law and order problem in view of beef controversy.
The largest Eid Nimaz was offered at Eidgah in Srinagar while Dargah Hazratbal too witnessed rush of Muslims on this occasion.
Unlike past, valleyites celebrated Eid sans internet services. Fearing having an impact on situation on Eid, the authorities ordered snapping of internet facility, broad band included, since early Friday morning – 5:00 am.
Government simultaneously extended the ban from September 26 10: 00 pm when the internet services were supposed to be opened. There is no official confirmation yet when the services shall be restored.
Situation was by and large normal, however, clashes erupted in Eidgah while Namaz was being offered. Incidents of stone pelting were also reported from Sopore and Islamabad areas as well.
Kashmir expresses intense anger against a High Court order directing police to implement 1892 beef ban across J&K. A PIL was filed last year in Jammu wing of High Court on which the HC gave such a ruling. Those who had filed the PIL included a deputy advocate general who has been dismissed by government since then.
All frontline Hurriyat leaders were detained.
Syed Ali Geelani has been undergoing house detention since he returned from New Delhi while Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was detained in his Nigeen Lake view residence late Thursday evening. He was scheduled to lead Eid Namaz at Eidgah. He, later, addressed the Eid gathering on phone.
Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah and Nayeem Khan were detained in their houses.
Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, a day before Eid (Friday) had claimed that sixty eight of their activists were detained in different police stations.
