While strongly condemning the continuous imprisonment of Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Aasiya Andrabi and detention of dozens of youths in Islamabad and subjecting them to custodial torture in the police stations, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) led y Syed Ali Geelani demanded their immediate release.

According to the TeH statement, “the police have not only detained Ishfaq Ahmad Katwaal, Zahid Ahmad Wagay, Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat, Tariq Ahmad, Basit Ahmad Mir, Dawood Ahmad Wani, Mohsin Nisar and Bilal Ahmad in the police station lockups but they have been subjected to the third degree torture there.”

While expressing his deep concern over the continuous imprisonment of Aasiya Andrabi, TeH said, “the woman leader is suffering from different ailments for a very long time and detaining her for longer period can prove very harmful for her health. She is being detained just in the name of preventive detention which the state high court recently termed as illegal and unconstitutional.”

Demanding the immediate release of the woman leader, TeH said that the prisoners are released on the Eid eve “but the Mufti Sayeed government to its contrary has unleashed an arrest spree in the entire Kashmir valley and has proven his “Goli Nahi Boli” slogan just a fraud”.

“The youth who have been arrested in the Islamabad district have been kept in the police station Shearbagh and Sadar police station. According to the reports received, these youths are being subjected to the worst kind of custodial tortures there and police is using extremely abusive and insulting language with them,” the TeH statement alleged.

TeH statement further said, “the custodial torture is a grave crime according to the state and international laws and it has been termed as grave human rights violation but it is continuously in practice in Jammu & Kashmir and the state police doesn’t term it any crime.” “Some police officers are a step ahead to that and they demand ransom money in place of the release of the youths.”

While demanding the release of all the Kashmiri political prisoners and youths including Aasiya Andrabi before the Eid, TeH said, “the present attitude of the Mufti-BJP government is very dangerous for the political situations of the state and it can have serious consequences.”

Meanwhile on the direction of Chairperson TeH and Hurriyat Conference (g) Syed Ali Geelani, delegation led by its general secretary Haji Ghulam Nabi Sumji today visited Sopore and expressed condolence and sympathy with the family of 3 year old martyr Burhan and his father.
