Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) Thursday condemned the State government for detaining MLA Langate Er Rasheed from offering Eid Prayers in Rajouri.

An AIP spokesperson said that police action is highly condemnable and it exposes the claims of democracy being in J&K.

In a statement issued, the spokesperson said, “Rasheed while on way to Rajouri has been arrested near Jawahar Tunnel by heavy contingent of Police and was not allowed to proceed. He had to start signature campaign for revocation ban at Banihal and then he had to proceed to Rajouri.”

“AIP President was on way to Rajouri as he had announced to offer Eid prayers there to show solidarity with the Jammu Muslims,” the spokesperson said.

He quoted Rasheed as having said, “there was nothing communal in my going to Rajouri; we are one state and I just wanted to give a sense of belonging to Jammu Muslims who feel isolated after the communal forces started taking the region as a conquered one. Not only the communal forces but Divisional Administration in Jammu seems keen bent on harassing Muslims by issuing directions to all deputy commissioners to implement court orders on Beef Ban in letter and spirit.”

The AIP spokesperson said, “non-state subjects and highly communal people like Praveen Togadiya are always being treated like State guests and allowed to spread hatred against Muslims while as state subjects and elected representatives are being stopped even from meeting each other.”

He further said, “Muslims were never communal and neither do they find enough time to think over communal lines because of the turmoil in the State and their religious teachings and they have been put to such a situation where they hardly get any time to think on communal lines. So it is understood that the brow beaten community doesn’t need sermons not to hurt other communities. We do not need to have an apologetic approach and none should, intentionally or unintentionally, give an impression that we are or were ever communal and could hurt others.” “India is making the situation such that the Kashmiri’s are compelled to react.”

Rasheed was shifted to Islamabad and was not released, as the last reports came in.
